Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com essential recording
Both the introduction to hard country for a generation of college kids and a key entry in what became the neotraditionalist movement, Dwight Yoakam's debut was a near-perfect re-creation of Buck Owens's Bakersfield sound. "Bury Me" and "Miner's Prayer" are heartfelt homages to Yoakam's real Kentucky roots, while honky-tonkers like "South of Cincinnati" remind how many Kentuckians eventually headed to Ohio for good jobs. Most immediately striking, though, are Yoakam's covers--particularly versions of Johnny Horton's "Honky Tonk Man" and Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire"--which subtly tune up the Bakersfield sound with a rock & roll super-charge. --David Cantwell

Nothin But Guitars,Cadillacs and Hillbilly Music5
This is one of the best albums Dwight Yoakam has made...His voice is nothing but pure country...straight from the hills of Kentucky...I would certainly recommend this album ta any fan of pure Honky Tonk music !!! Ya will be thankful ya bough it...the quality of the music...the voice and the composure is worth more than the price of this collection !!! A+++

Guitars and Cadillacs...and honkytonk feelings straight UP!!5
This first acceptance into the charts was a breakthru with these treasures...the songs hold up today..and loved by everyone...from this album of Yesterday to the SOUNDS of today..they stand the test of TIME...from the first time you take IT home and hear IT..till a million times later..You will NEVER get tired of the twang and musically inspired and creative writing ability of this album..one of THEIR best..not accepted in Nashville at the time..this was a period of being known as THE HOLLYWOOD HILLBILLY~mixed with this and their others..have developed quite a recognizably force in the music industry..and not always necessarily being "Country"as it has been labeled TODAY..Buy it at AMAZON.com and You will be dancin and a singin!!

Genius starts here5
Every cut on here is so good, from beginning to end. For me, it is perfect driving music, especially on a long, hot summer day through the backroads. "I'll Be Gone", is a favorite. Such a great voice.
