The second volume of Prince's collection of singles (and a couple of outtakes) has sex on the brain, and a few other places. Apparently aimed at, shall we say, the harder-core fan of the Artist, this disc still ends its parade of R-rated sallies ("Dirty Mind," "Sexy M.F.," "Head") with a cleansing "Purple Rain." And just to blur things even more, among its Top 10 hits are candidly horny moments like "Kiss" and "Little Red Corvette"--songs that add new twists to the African-American store of body-talkin' funkin'-blues poetry. --Rickey Wright

Keeping Me From My Studies
I need to write a report for my history class. Unfortunately I can't do that because I'm listening to Prince (or the Artist as he is and should be called now). The Hits Vol.2 is an incredible collection of songs, even better than Vol. 1. The Artist is a genius, my favorite musician after Jimi Hendrix. I can only say that if you buy this album, be prepared to be blown away by every single track. My favorites (right now) are Controversy, I Wanna Be Your Lover, Head, Little Red Corvette, Rasberry Beret, Peach, and Cream, but that will change by tomorrow. Every single track is a funky little masterpiece. If you're not familiar with the Artist, buy this album. I should probably go work now.
The Darker Side of His Royal Badness.
Even though "The Hits 2" is just one-third of the set "The Hits/The B-Sides," this single disc compilation has enough brilliant material to stand entirely on its own. It's a freaky ride through the darker side of Prince's music during the Warner Brothers years, and at least half of these singles have "masterpiece" written all over them. Groundbreaking tracks like the eyebrow-raising "Head," the flawless "Kiss," and "Little Red Corvette" (one of the great American rock singles) show that Prince was one of the most vital musicians of the 1980s. Not only was he prolific (he released one album every calendar year), but he's the only artist in the 1980s to release FOUR classic albums in one decade: "Dirty Mind," "1999," "Purple Rain," and "Sign O the Times." Madonna couldn't do it. Neither could Bruce Springsteen. Michael Jackson came close, but still no cigar. Even Prince's "lesser" singles like "Sexy M.F." and "Cream" had more to offer than much of Top 40 radio. Of course, diehard fans are strongly recommended to get his 3 disc set that has a slew of his b-sides, but first-time listeners can't go wrong with picking this one up.
A eclectic collection of Prince hits
This hits collection provides an eclectic mix of Prince tunes, mostly of the sexier, darker, and more soulful variety. We get a peek into Prince's mega-hit Purple Rain with "I Would Die 4 U" and an extended version of the title track. There are also some lighter pop hits ("Little Red Corvette" and "Raspberry Beret") as well as the later chart topper, "Cream." Finally, the compilation includes a few lesser known hits such as "Controversy" and "Delirious" plus a number of songs which never saw any radio play. For die-hard Prince fans, this collection is a must-have, but more casual fans may struggle to recognize many of the songs here.
