Wonderful Collection but buy the Original Albums
I love Pete, and thought this would be a great collection to play (and sing along to) in the car. It works pretty well, except that the editing is poorly done. Several of the tracks are taken from live performances and originally ran together with another song. The beginning or end of the tracks are obviously missing something. It might have been better to chose a different source album or song, rather than chop up Mr. Seeger's great live renditions. I can understand the producer wanting to include these particular songs together -- it seemed to be a near perfect cross-section of classic Pete Seeger. Save up and buy the original albums that these tracks were drawn from, there is a great difference in hearing them in their original settings. Now, about the commentary offered by those ticky-tacky boxes in today's culture...
Price is right , titles are tight, buy some Pete tonight...
If you don't have these classic Seeger songs already on other discs, this is a good value. As another reviewer noted, the editing and sound quality is acceptable, not perfect. If they wanted ten bucks more, it might not be a wise choice compared to his "We Shall Overcome" concert, for instance. But for this budget price, you can buy famous songs by one of the most famous singers, in performances recorded during his years of widest fame. Pete's famous passion for social justice, his preservation of tradition, his humor, his internationalism, his spiritual kinship with Woody Guthrie are all on display. How can you beat all that?
fo shizzle
this one is one of the best he's ever done
