This is the campy holiday disc of the decade (if not the past 40 years) from 1997. Everybody's favorite sugar plum fairy delivers a batch of standards and salty originals as only RuPaul can. Some of these holiday covers are done so tongue-in-cheek (i.e., "I Saw Daddy Kissing Santa Claus") you expect to find an oral surgeon listed on the album credits. Still Ho Ho Ho (isn't that an allusion to an old Eddie Murphy line on Saturday Night Live?) really is fun fun fun, especially RuPaul's hilarious sendup of Eartha Kit's "Santa Baby," preceded by "All I Want for Christmas." Here the combined wish lists are slightly changed to reflect RuPaul's pronounced proclivities: cash, plastic surgery (a nice tummy tuck and some other anatomical manipulations, too), cash, and, of course, a big diamond rock. When it's all said and done, this is one Christmas sweet tart who wants "the total package, honey. TP." Ho doesn't come with one, but a PG rating here should suffice. --Martin Keller

An instant classic!
When I first picked up this CD in 1997 I hooted, I howled, I roared, I rolled around on the floor doubled over with laughter! Amazingly every Christmas since then has been just the same! No one could have done as marvelous a job at putting a fun and campy spin on the hoiliday as Ru. This is the CD that's played each and every year as I decorate the tree with frineds and family. Everyone enjoys it. What's so great about it is it's not only campy and funny as hell (you'll be bowled over by "All I Want for Christmas"), but it's dancable! It's a real Christmas PARTY CD. Meant for getting up and having a hell of a good time! No other Christams CD has that quality.
Another important ingredient is it's sooo wonderfully affirming(not to mention long overdue) in its inclusion of gay themes. Finally there is something I can relate to, that speaks to me personally. We are represented in a natural, accepting way. MONUMENTAL! But what's equally amaizing is that this isn't a "gay" Christmas CD, it's made for anyone with a sense of fun, joy and excitement. For anyone who can laugh at the holiday and still love it.
All the songs are terrific and not a one of 'em should be missed. Ru's reworking of Dolly Parton's "With Bells On" and "Hard Candy Christmas" are radical but definitely work. No longer quiet and sentimental they are dance tracks, meant to make you shake your bon-bon. Two other standouts are "Mr. Grinch" and "Christmas Nite", a RuPaul original. And what an original it is! Telling the story of a blusey Christmas years ago and the love that did her wrong. Love, betrayal and death all in a campy Christmas song! What more could you ask for?
Running just under an hour, my only wish is that the party didn't end so soon. But make no mistake, this is an instant classic! No Christmas collection should be without it!
"RuPaul the rednosed drag queen"
I bought this album back in 1998 as a joke gift. An album by RuPaul entitled "Ho Ho Ho" seemed like a sure laugh riot to me. I ended up liking it so much that I kept it for myself and have played it every Christmas since. RuPaul definitely puts an alternative stamp of some classic Christmas favorites. From "I saw daddy kissing Santa Claus" to "RuPaul the rednosed drag queen" to "All I want for Christmas is some liposuction" to a soulful rendition of "Mr. Grinch" this album looks at Christmas from a point of view of a unique lifestyle. The interaction with friends during the songs is also fun, especially on "Hard Candy Christmas" and "All I Want for Christmas." The album also offers a more serious (and a little disturbing) darker look at the holidays on "Christmas Nite." The last track is a repetitive techno dance track for New Year's. For a Christmas album out of the ordinary, I recommend Ho Ho Ho.
Rupaul sprinkles his Holiday Magic for all the little people
If you are tired of the same old sappy Christmas albums that come out year after year by famous recording artists with the same predictable songs on them, this a holiday album for you. It will certainly give you that Christmas spirit and crack you up at the same time. Ru's remake of Dolly Partons Hard Candy Christmas is a gem, and I'm sure Dolly would be proud and feel this version does justice. This definitely is a Cd to lift your spirits if thats what you are looking for, instead listening to some depressing Christmas song while sitting by the tree alone, and reflecting back on Christamas' gone by and that will never be again .
