Customer Reviews
Brilliant
This is Bach organ music transcribed for piano. It is the best Bach played on solo piano I've ever heard. (I prefer it to all Goldberg Variations I've ever heard, for instance). This music and the pianist are absolutely brilliant.
It has a bit of a late 19th Century flavor to it, since the transcriber (Busoni) lived around then, and also the pianist (Rosel) is not a Bach specialist but plays Brahms, etc. But don't let that put you off if, like me, you're not a big fan of the late 19th Century. Bach's fugues do not get any better than this. By the way, although the CD is dated 1994 it was actually recorded in the 1970's.
