EXCELLENT BUY
All to often the "Best of Music" collections actually turn out to be the worst of albums. Consisting of substandard tracks. That record labels could not induced the gullible public to purchase first time around. Not so with this excellent selection of Reggae hits from the "Putumayo Series". There are consciousness songs and songs about life in general. None of them bland or repetitive as can often be the case with Reggae best of albums. There are also some interesting new comers with a fusion sound like the Nigerian Majek Fashek who's debut album "Rainmaker" will introduce him to a wider audience. This "Best of" collection has some really vibrant songs that will get you moving.
Outstanding Mon!
This is by far the best reggae album I've ever come across. I first heard it in a tourist shop in St. Thomas while taking a cruise. I bought a copy on the spot. Most of the artists I've never heard before, but their tunes had me hooked after one listen. The booklet attached to the jacket gives you a good rundown on the artists and their backgrounds, ranging from the Carribbean to Africa, England, to Miami and Washington DC. Highly recommended.
A Very Good Collection
For non-reggae folk like myself, finding a good reggae listen can present somewhat of a challenge. That challenge is met very well by this collection. The CD claims it's "guaranteed to make you feel good", and they ain't kidding. Early favorites include Inner Circle's "One Way" and Alexander Bernard's "Eclipse My Soul". Pick it up and enjoy.
