Rascher Quartet doesn't disappoint4
The Rascher quartet is extremely faithful to the vintage saxophone sound. They treat each work with respect, but are not too timid to offer their own interpretive elements.

Alexander Glazunov's quartet is one of the most beautiful small ensemble scorings I've ever come across. His familiarity with (and enthusiasm for) the particular sound of the saxophone are a testament to his musical flexibility. This seminal work is a must-hear (arguably a must-play) for anyone interested in playing classical sax quartets.

Percy Grainger's scorings never neglect the saxophone's unique characteristics, and this quartet of Shepherd's Hey is no different.

The world premiere recording of Steve Reich's New York Counterpoint takes an entirely different direction, and does so successfully. The quartet is well within their depth playing the modern selections on this disc.

Each selection on this disc is worthy in its own right, but as a group these really do present a great sampler of where a sax quartet can go.

This is a good album, some things about it4
I bought this CD a year ago and I really love it. It's great to hear a different perspective on sound. This CD has a variety of pieces, from Baroque, to Standard saxophone quartet literature, to modern literature, it's all there. I bought this CD to hear the Glazunov Saxophone Quartet. I am a saxophonist and I highly reccomend this recording. Few artists have recorded the Finale to the piece. One suggestion however, the Scherzo variation of the 2nd movement is a tad slow. It doesn't match up with other interpretations and even many of his other string quartets. However, besides that, this CD is a complete gem. I reccomend it for any fan of classical music, namely one of Bach or one of Glazunov.
