Customer Reviews
One of my favorite CDs.
Nina Simone exhibits her incredible range in this recording. I thought it was out of "print" so happy to see it still available. The instrumentals, the quality of the recording, and Nina! -- can't say enough about this.
A MUST FOR YOUR COLLECTION
She's simply the best. Her range is stunning. This collection of songs is a great introduction to her range as a top worldwide talent. If I had to pick one song to download it would be "THE OTHER WOMAN".
One of the greatest singers ever!
If you have been curious to discover the world of Nina Simone, this is probably a great collection to start with. It includes some really heavy, heavy songs (e.g. Four Women, The Other Woman) as well as my absolute favorite Nina Simone song, "Wild is the Wind." If you can, listen to this song in your car at night. Go drive to a quiet place overlooking your city (or a field of cows, whatever works), roll down the windows, recline your seat slightly, and get ready to get rocked. Her voice dominates the song to the point you forget she's playing piano in an almost frantic manner behind it all (word on the streets is that she was a classically trained pianist!). There are quiet spaces in this song that are anything but empty. She good. No, she great. It doesn't matter what kind of music you like (or think you like), if Nina Simone doesn't make your all-time favorites list, you are dead inside. that's right, i said it. it's that good.
After this album, get some of her other stuff, i recommend the classic song "Mississippi Goddamn."
