Two masterpieces !!!
The Kabalevsky concerto was written for the juvenile listener but is also a delight for the mature collector. The structure is very simple and easy to follow. If you want to be in a happy mood then this is the right stuff for you.
The Muczynski concerto is in the great tradition of the late Romantic piano concertos. It was the first time that I experienced this very original American "new Gershwin". There are some similarities with the early Stravinsky but the composer has his own sound (you may also enjoy his works for flute) and should be more popular in the USA because he is a living person.
Amazing
This is an amazing CD. I especially like the Muczynski Concerto and Suite. They are great pieces, and the pianist is amazing--spectacular technique and artistry.
Kabalevsky: Concerto No 1, Muczynski: Concerto No 1
The concertos on this CD deserve to be heard much more frequently. The Kabalevsky concerto is a delightful work and the Muczynski concerto is amazingly beautiful and in a more romantic style than his later more distinct style. I don't understand why neither of these concertos are very well known or performed. The performances on this CD are excellent!
