Customer Reviews
Tony always plays beautifully
This is typical of his later, commercial albums. Beautiful guitar playing and tone, but pop instrumentation and arrangements. Tony did some jazz albums early on, but later went pop to the dismay of hardcore jazz guitar fans.
But I always love to hear him play. He had a unique style of phrasing, sliding, bending, etc that to me combined Christian, Les Paul and Django. But his style was his own, and his chord ideas were much more 1960'....very hip and modern. His tone is gorgeous.
I love anything by Tony, but wish he did more straight up jazz.
More Tony, less backing
In my opinion, only Chet Atkins is less cluttered than Tony Mottola in the realm of (relatively) easy listening music. Here, Mottola is often submerged under strings and things. As a guitarist, I'm biased, want more Tony, less orchestration. Still, this CD is a good buy, and stays in my collection.
