This double CD does as good a job of capturing the full-throated, shoe-tossing glory of a Patti LaBelle show as any recording could. Its success as a home-listening experience, however, is diminished by the explosive vocal runs that the singer insists on tossing into every song, whether appropriate or not. Smartly programmed, the album offers a first disc that leans heavily on LaBelle's signature pieces ("New Attitude," "You Are My Friend") and a second that pays homage to Sam Cooke ("A Change Is Gonna Come"), Ashford and Simpson (a duet with O'Jay Eddie Levert on "Is It Still Good to You"), and the Cheryl Lynn disco classic "Got to Be Real" (with another guest, Mariah Carey). Probably a must for fans but a pass for those who haven't already followed her for years. --Rickey Wright

PATTI AT HER BEST !
Patti La Belle is, for many, an acquired taste. But love her or not , you have to respect and admire the power of that voice. As a fan for close to 25 years, I know for a fact, there is nothing Patti can't sing, no song she can't stamp with her unmistakeable style. This box set proves it. Her staples like "New Attitude"and"You Are My Friend" are always sung with passion and force, but I feel the highlight of this song-pack CD is the inclusion of "If You Love Me" a ballad written years ago for French songstress Edith Piaf. Here, we are blessed with Patti at her best. No back-up singers trying to outsing her, or musicians attempting to divert audience attention , Patti, her own band and an orchestra with a killer string section give us an absolutely magnificent ballad, sung with more delicate force and passion than any Whitney, Mariah or Celine could ever accomplish. Best of all, Patti is simply being Patti. She is a strong, down to earth, compassionate woman, who always makes time for her fans, never takes their love or their respect for granted, and is never above saying 'Thank You' or more importantly 'I Love You'. In a world such as ours, it's nice to know that there are still people like that around, and nicer still to know that one of them is Patti La Belle. Thanks Patti.

Diva Incarnate
I have been a Patti Labelle fan since 1972 when she unleashed the hit single, "You Are My Friend". This live album, Live! One Night Only is her best to date. When I saw the live PBS special, after all these years, I was still amazed at her vocal range and her ability to command the stage. I belive this is classic Patti. The vocals are flawless and mesmerizing to the listener. I sang at an 1989 concert with her and she is as caring and real as this concert displays. I thought she couldn't do "If You Love Me?" any better or with any more passion. I felt God there. This rendetion brought tears to my eyes and delight to my ears. She moves into your heart like a warm embrace that makes you feel safe, loved, electrified and free. Her redition on this cut is phemomenal! She cries, she wails, she soars and dances. She is Diva! Her voice is ethereal, piercing and proud to be in the rafters! Other stand out tunes on this boxed CD are: the Bells, Over the Rainbow, I believe I Can Fly, Sparkle and Don't Make Me Over. I know of no other artist, not Aretha, not Jennifer Holiday, not Whitney, not Mariah nor any other to compare. Patti is Diva Incarnate. She is the consumate performer. The beauty and depth of her voice mirrors the warmth and power of her soul. This boxed set, Live! One Night Only is not to be missed!

THere is nobody like Patti Labelle.SHe can really hurt you with Her 5 octave range voice.And the C.D not only gives you a taste of what she can do, But she gives you more than a mouth full. Patti is so great on this C.d Live one night only that it earned her the 1999 Grammy Award. if you don't got it, get it. everyone who like's patti labelle should get it because it is a must have that will last forever. I leave saying this, When patti comes out with her gospel album go and get it when it hit the stores and show her how much she is really loved. Much love to you.
