As a survey of Toby Keith's first four recordings (not including the seasonal Christmas to Christmas), this set turns in some strong singles, making the case for the Okie singer-songwriter as one of the more traditionally minded of the '90s hat acts. Keith rarely devastates as a singer, but he never overreaches, and there's more than a bit of grit in his delivery of "Should've Been a Cowboy" and "He Ain't Worth Missing." His emotional triumph remains the obsessive "Who's That Man," in which Keith sees another man living the life he threw away. Keith also includes two songs not available elsewhere, complementing an appealing mainstream country set. --Roy Kasten

great variety of country music
It's hard to believe that Toby Keith has already released a Greatest Hits album and it's hardly been 5 years since he started singing. I just don't see why he hasn't racked up on the awards for being such a good singer. He's probably the most underrated country singer right now. This is a real good album that deserves all the hype that it can get. It has most of his hits up to now including the new hit Getcha Some. They're all great songs and there's good variety in the songs. There's some like Should've Been A Cowboy that have catchy rhythms, some slow, meaningful songs like Me Too, and even some humorous songs like You Ain't Much Fun. Whatever kind of country you like, it's here. If your a country music fan, this will probably be a great album to add to your collection.
Getcha Some of Toby Keith's very best!
Toby Keith emerged in 1993 with the autographical hit "Should've Been A Cowboy." The rodeo's loss is country music's gain, as Keith has been one of its most dependable hitmakers over the past six years. This collection specializes in relationship songs, be it humorous ("You Ain't Much Fun"), reflective ("We Were in Love"), or wishful ("Dream Walkin'"). Best of all is the duet with Sting on "I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying" which hits divorce from a male perspective dead-on. Two new tracks provide some fresh variations on the Keith sound, with the lead-off single "Getcha Some" offering a dopey delivery reminiscent of the Beverly Hillbillies theme song ("Black Gold, Texas Tea"). It adds up to fourteen of the best of '90s country. Getcha Some today!
A superb collection of hits!
Toby Keith is one of the most popular and talented country music singers today. He's had nine #1 hits so far and that number is sure to grow. "Greatest Hits, Volume One" features twelve of Toby's chart-topping hits and two new recordings ("Getcha Some" and "If A Man Answers"). Toby's first single (1993's "Should've Been A Cowboy") went to #1 and was named by Billboard magazine as the most played song of the 1990s in any genre. That's quite an accomplishment!
Some of the outstanding songs on here are "I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying" (a duet with Sting), "Does That Blue Moon Ever Shine On You," "Who's That Man," "Dream Walkin'" and "We Were In Love." Of course, there are some fun songs like, "You Ain't Much Fun" and "Big Ol' Truck." "Getcha Some," one of the previously unreleased songs, is very good!
This is a must-have album for a Toby Keith fan or for somebody who enjoys excellent country music!
