Editorial Reviews

From Parents' Choice®
A sampling of the short, witty educational songs that TV viewers in the '70s and '80s absorbed along with their Saturday morning cartoons, written and sung by some of the best jazz artists around. Bob Dorough, Tom Yohe, Dave Frishberg--you can't beat the talent that went into "Conjunction Junction," "Walkin' On Wall Street," "I'm Just a Bill," and scads more. A 1999 Parents' Choice® Recommendation. (Lynne Heffley, Parents' Choice®)

Is the best really the 'Best of the Best'?3
I did think that for the most part there is a good selection on this CD. Most os the ones you remember from your childhood like 'I'm just a Bill' and 'Interplanet Janet' are here. But there were a few I loved that didn't make it such as 'Ready or not, here I come' (multiplying by 5s) and the unforgetable love classic 'The Tale of Mr. Morton'. The last 4 tracks are only put on here so you would have to buy this CD plus the 'complete' recording CD to actually get the complete recordings. Those 4 songs are not on the 4 CD set. In my opinion, those 4 are actually pretty low on the scale of good School House Rock songs. As for the quality, it is better then the actual music videos.A little effort was put in to make them sound really good.

Missing Too Many Good Songs3
It's a good album and for those of us that grew up eagerly awaiting Saturday morning cartoons; it's a great disc. It had been a while since I had heard many of these songs and have been amazed at how well crafted the songs are to the point I've found myself singing them at work.

I originally bought the disc to share with my 2 year old son and I'm happy to say he loves them, especially "Conjunction Junction" and "Interjection."

My only complaint is that the compiler that formulated the list of songs opted to include songs spanning the years of School House Rock instead of including the Best songs. There are many songs that are missing that are simply better and more likable than songs like "Tyrannosaurus Debt."

A great way to share my childhood with my kids!4
"The Best of" CD was great fun for me to play for my kids the first time. It was a chance to share a part of my childhood with them. The songs are as adictive now as they were then (and as "the Mom", I don't find myself growing quickly tired of the repetitive playing of the CD). I am thrilled that my five-year-old can recite the Preamble to the Constitution. It is a fabulous CD (although I miss Lolly, Lolly, Lolly, Get your Adverbs Here) - my all-time favorites were not ALL included in "The Best of", but it does contain most of them. I hope my kids play it for my grandchildren someday!
