Customer Reviews
A must for the Pioneer collector
This is only for the true Sons of the Pioneer fan. If you cannot identify at least some of the vocal trios of the Pioneers down thru the years, this set is not for you. They are for the most part, transcriptions from the old radio days of 1934 and 1935. The trio of Roy Rogers (Len Sly), Bob Nolan and Tim Spencer do the vocal with the Farr brothers on lead guitar and bass. The songs are for the most part spirituals, americana, cowboy, traditional songs from the 1800's and early 1900's, original compositions by Nolan, Rogers and Spencer. Also some wonderful instrumentals by the Farr brothers. Quite honestly, the boys didn't quite have that great sound most would recognize as the "Pioneers Sound" . That would develope around 1937 and later. If you are a collector of the Pinoeers music down thru the years, this is a must have. But again, if you are thinking of the Sons as they were during their peak years from the 19040's with Roy in the movies, you may be a little disappointed with these recordings. Previously only available to a very few fans. Only if you knew someone who had the original transcriptions of tapes of the originals. Bear Family has done it again. Making song material available with the latest technology, that we all thought was lost forever. Pioneer fans around the world are in your debt.
