White Fang and the Hunter
Well, the story was a little hokey, kind of a spaghetti Western set in the far north, but for sled dog enthusiests like me it had some very interesting touches. For example, near the end it had probably the only example of dogs hitched in a "single file" double trace type hitch I have ever seen in a movie, with old style harnesses. I know, from seeing many old photos, that this was how dogs were actually hitched during this period- this and the Inuit style fan hitch are in the movie, which was seen with a team of all Samoyeds of all things (Samoyed fans, take notice). Yes, White Fang is a German Shepherd, but my 10 year old neice was entertained, and I enjoyed the authentic sled dog touches and also the unintentional humor caused by the director trying to impose Italian attitudes/ values on what was mostly at that time a Native and Anglo-Saxon Protestant culture ( a wandering robed Catholic monk in the rural 1890's Yukon was especially funny ). However, if you're sled dog fanatic and don't mind pure escapism without Jack London's eloquence, you might find this movie kind of interesting.
