Trance-master Paul van Dyk's greatest
I have no clue what had drawn me to buy this box set, I had no previous releases by this artist, although his name is famous among making some of the best dance music in the world. After taking "Vorsprung" home and spending the time to browse through all three CD's, I knew I made a wise decision. "Vorsprung" is an epic that spans six years worth of work by Paul van Dyk. It is a collection of his own works and his "best of the best" remixes.
The first CD is the most up-to-date of the three compilations, and is up there as one of my favorite DJ-mix compilations of all time with Paul Oakenfold's "Tranceport." Most of the first CD contains modern club/rave hits including "Flaming June" by Brian Transeau (BT), "The Age of Love" by The Age of Love, "1998" by Binary Finary, and "For an Angel" by Paul van Dyk himself.
The second CD is earlier in the German DJ's career. This compilation is a lot more interesting and captivating. The best songs in my opinion are "Spooky" by New Order, "Niji" by Denki Groove (this song is in Japanese but I love it!!), the masterpiece "Rendezvous" by Paul van Dyk and Tilt, and the dance-floor anthem "Words" by Paul van Dyk.
The third CD, hmm.. how can I put this, is the most innovative. This last compilation is all of PvD's earliest remixes. The selection of songs is so mind-bending and spacey that this is my favorite disc to sleep to. It is also the most primitive and basic sounding of them all. Disc Three shows you how much Paul van Dyk has grown as a musician and a remixer since the beginning of his career. The CD starts out with the beautiful yet quiet "Child Two" by Tranceparents, followed by the mysterious "Punishing the Atoms" by Effective Force. Never heard of these artists? Neither have I, but this is honestly some of the best music I've ever heard in my life.
Don't be afraid to take the risk and buy "Vorsprung Dyk Technik." If you're looking for something creative and different, and especially if you are a fan of Paul van Dyk, get this 3-CD set. Like I said before, this is an epic that spans six years of hard work by a genius.

The Total Trance Experience
If you live on planet Earth, and enjoy trance... then you know PVD. But, what you may not know is that he's very stylistically diverse and had influences from all different genres of electronic music. This cd set really exemplifies that diversity. The great thing is that it's not categorized. You don't hear the same kind of music track after track. There's tremendous jungle influence as well as old school techno. Just when you think you've heard it all and sit down for a second, PVD slams you with a mix that makes you physically unable to remain seated. These three cd's will remain a permanent placement in your cd changer. Enjoy!
A sort-of "Best Of" compilation
Over the past decade years, PvD has gained reputation as one of the best international DJ/producers. This is basically a summary of what he did from 1992-1998. It includes his own work "For An Angel" etc., and many of his remix work from Humate, Binary Finary, BT, Dance 2 Trance, etc. This is evidence the PvD is one of the most talented people in the business. If you like trance, I strongly recommend getting your hand on it because its excellent.
