Based on the video game, Fatal Fury is widely regarded as one of the best kung fu anime features. The good guys are Terry "Hungry Wolf" Bogard and his brother, Andy; Thai kickboxer Joe Higashi; and the curvaceous ninja Mai. With their masses of spiky blond hair, narrow blue eyes, and sharp features, the Bogard brothers almost cross over into the "beautiful boy" genre, but they and Joe are muscled like dinosaurs. Mai, who has a crush on Andy, provides both humor and jiggle interest in a succession of minuscule outfits. The heroes are pitted against an assortment of equally buffed-out Bad Guys, led by Laocorn, a descendant of the ancient clan of Gaudeamus, who is seeking to obtain "the armor of Vulcan." A relic going back to the time of Alexander the Great, the armor transforms anyone who wears all seven pieces of it into a god. But Laocorn's twin sister, Sulia, knows it will also make the wearer hopelessly evil: she enlists the Bogards and their friends to prevent her brother from acquiring the scattered pieces. Director Masami Obari uses all the standard tricks for the bone-crunching martial arts battles--blurs, streaks, slow-motion images of blows landing on skulls, camera spins, flashes of lighting, flames, and, of course, gobs of blood. Fatal Fury feels like a cross between an Indiana Jones film and a WWE tag-team match, and is sure to delight adolescent boys. (Rated 13 Up) --Charles Solomon

An awesome martial arts spectacle.
"Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture" is one of the better video game based Anime's. Even though the characters have this peculiar look to them, overall animation is beautifully drawn and accentuated by the energetic action sequences. A story of several martial artists out to stop a man from achieving god-like status, by acquiring Armor of God, might seem a bit cheesy at first, but once you get into the movie, it is very exciting to watch. Another great thing about this Anime is that you don't have to know a thing about the video game to appreciate the movie. But if you do play the video game, it is even a bigger treat, to see all those awesome fighting moves come to life in full force. Quite an action spectacle.
The DVD blows the VHS totally out of the water
I bought the VHS of this movie a long time ago and loved it. I loved it so much that I watched it about 50 times. I knew everything about the quality of the tape from when the audio screwed up to when certain parts were going to be fuzzy. When I bought the DVD I watched it and nothing, not one speck of fuzz was to be found, the sound totally blew me away too, way better than VHS. There are also a lot of extras on the disk that I liked too. Such things as Theatrical Trailers both in English and Japanese along with drawings, a backstory feature, and a lot of information about Viz including additonal trailers from other Viz Video offerings(a lot of them) made this disk well worth it's money. Words cannot explain the quality of both the video and the audio in this DVD. Amazon.com has the best price I've seen for this DVD anywhere on the internet. Don't miss out on it!
The Best Anime based on a video game
I was realy surprised by this one. It is one of the most entertaining anime's I have ever seen. The character designs are top rate, thank you Mr. Obari, the plot is good, and most importantly the characters are great. They run the gamet. Terry is the lone wolf who realy just wants someone to love, Joe is the dirty minded but loveable friend, and Mai is the boubly and bouncey, and I do mean BOUNCEY ninja girl. most importantly however this movie has nothing to do with the game's pathetic storyline. This movie takes the characters from the game and uses them in an original plot about a madman trying to collect peices of armor that will make him a god. If the movies based on Tekken, Street Fighter 2, Toshinden, and Samuri showdown have left a bad taste in your mouth, then guzzle down Fatal Fury the Motion Picture. You will be glad you did. P.S You might what to see the first two FF films, Legend of the Hungry Wolf and Fatal Fury 2 The New Battle to familureize your self with the characters. It is not nessasary, but you will enjoy this movie more if you do.
