New Orleans's All That offers a melange of funk, hip-hop, and deep-in-the-bone brass-band sounds on their second album, The Whop Boom Bam. Appropriately, for such a freewheeling sonic mix, the outfit tends toward the tongue-in-cheek, whether celebrating "Red Beans" and "Mardi Gras 1999," putting the horns out front for a honking version of Led Zeppelin's "Moby Dick," or offering a hilarious account of a missed gig entirely through answering-machine messages ("Los Hombre de F.I.A.S.Co."). --Rickey Wright

It's time again for jazz and poetry night
This is the best new funk record I have heard since Fishbone's "Truth and Soul" and if Angelo (Fishbone) hears this record D.J. Davis (All That) will be looking for a new Sousaphone. The grooves on this record take me back to Maceo Parker with the Rebirth Brass band on "Southern Exposure". The bass lines are looping in my head even as I write this (they almost never stop). In short, buy this record - NOW ! And if my review makes no sense to you then buy the other two records mentioned above (or face it man, you ain't from here ;-)

All That is a fabulous band whose music elevates the mind, body, and soul. Being from New Orleans I am lucky to being able to go see them perform. It is well worth the money to treat your ears to such groovy music.
