Album Description
73 Poems is La Barbara's musical setting for a series of 79 drawings by Kenneth Goldsmith which contain lists of phrases, words, letters or numbers. The drawings are loosely based on a stream of conscious rhyming system in which words and phrases are chosen for the associative and suggestive meanings they elicit as a group. Joan La Barbara's magnificent musical interpretations of these drawings add new dimensions to the artworks. Initially presented in 1993 at New York City's The Drawing Center, 73 Poems has since been performed at several musems around the country.

In addition to the Lovely Music CD recording, 73 Poems has also been published as a book and a suite of lithographs by Permanent Press. The book, which comes complete with CD, includes all of Goldsmith's 79 drawings from the exhibition.
