DANCE FUSION AT ITS FINEST
Classic Arabic dance songs mix it up with free jazz, techno, and rap in the Casba. This CD really takes you for a kinetic dance journey -if you play it loud- or a sweet mystical tour if you prefer ambiance down low in the BG.
I liked the way the alternating men/women vocals wailed like mystical prayers at a dancer's temple. The beat though sometimes very convoluted, never stops.
If you liked Peter Gabriel's Passion, his electronic score for the movie "The Last Temptaion of Christ" you will be exhilirated by ARABESQUE. It's got the same timeless ambiance of haunting Arabic desert music, but with lots of modern dance beats, studio enhancements and eclectic cultural references.
I liked this CD so much, I'm ordering a second copy as a thank you gift for a friend.
Incredible Middle Eastern music with modern infusions!
I found this album while on vacation and bought it right away for fear I would never find this great album again! Luckily for all of you, it is available on many online vendors, like here on Amazon. I highly recommend it! It had me dancing in the store! I am a traditional Middle Eastern dance student, and am always on the look-out for traditional music. Well, this is traditional with a twist! It's got all the instruments you would expect from the traditional music, but borrows from modern house and techno beats and influences to create an amazing sound you won't be able to stop listening to! If you have any interest in ethnic influences in modern beats (think Dead Can Dance, Tea Party), don't pass up this album!
North African Funk
For all those fans of the swirls of North African music, here's something traditional but also brings the balance of driving bass lines. The tenor of the traditional sound is broadened and given a contemporary feel by the pounding rhythm. Great in the car on a roadie with some friends - really transports you in time and space.
