No, album title aside, polka great Jimmy Sturr hasn't gone alternative rock on us. Not yet, at least. If anything, Polkapalooza is one of Sturr's more traditional outings, no collaborations with the Oak Ridge Boys, no duets with Willie Nelson. Three tunes by East Coast polka great Frank Wojnarowski; a Polish-language, big-band version of "O Suzannah"; and a cover of Faron Young's "Alone with You" are highlights on this disc. "Bayou Pon Pon" features Flaco Jimenez on accordion, but the fiddle playing of Frank Urbanovitch is every bit as impressive as the conjunto master's squeezeboxing. Sturr's big-band sounds are simply timeless: instrumentals like "Miles of Smiles" and "Quick Pick" will have you dancing, while the vocal tracks (such as "Pennsylvania Polka") will have you humming along. It's no wonder Sturr has earned as many Grammys as he has fingers. Let's hope he has plenty of shelves at home for more. --Jason Verlinde

Jimmy Sturr is the Polka King. This ten time grammy winner should have number 11 with Polkapalooza. Cuts I like include Miles of Smiles, Oh Suzannah and a great version of the Pennsylvania polka. His music will definately get your feet moving.
