Customer Reviews

A Pleasant Surprise4
I ordered this CD to get a taste of Seychelles music before I go there in person. I was glad I did - I absolutely adore it, and I'd like to find more! It is similar to Caribbean music. But in my opinion it is far superior. The melodies and song structure are sophisticated and catchy. After a few plays, they will stick in your head. One track is in English, the rest are in Kreol. The CD quality is very good, but there are no liner notes. Someone in the Seychelles responded to my inquiry about the CD as follows: "I suppose the CD he has is one of Wave's complete (I take this to mean `greatest hits') CD, because Wave was quite a popular group and they used to play in hotels or private functions." I'm told that the sega dancing performed to this music is a must-see. For under six dollars, you can't go wrong with this CD. But be forewarned, if you want to go there in person, it will cost much more.

Update:
During our stay in Seychelles, two girls at one of our hotels graciously translated the titles of this CD for me one night. They were big fans of this group whose members have unfortunately broken up.
Nou Devwar ("Our Work"); Dan Leo ("In the Heights", as opposed to living down below in the city); Fanta (actually inspired by the brand of soda); Sa Ki Nou Ete ("Who We Are"); Kote Ou Ete ("Where Are You?"); Anba Langar ("Under the Shelter" - a favorite place to hang out); Lavi Rezete ("Rejected Life" - about a girl who is jilted after she becomes pregnant); Dodo Baba ("Sleep, Baby"); Lot Kote ("Next Door"); Voyaz ("Voyage"); Komplent Paran ("Parent's Complaint"); Victorya ("Victoria", the capital of Seychelles).
