Sonora Santanera brings back memories5
This music brings nostalgic memories of my childhood in Mexico. Sonora Santanera was a staple of a every party in Mexico. My mom listen to it while growing up in the 60's. I was 7 years old in 1976, and I remember parties, graduations, and weddings and the "Sonora " was playing in the speakers. The Music added a lot more atmosphere which was already coming from the aromas of great Mexican food and the sweet smelling air of Summer. My personal favorites are "La Boa" and "Los Aretes que le faltan a la Luna" Others are "El Ladron" w/ the beautiful voice of Sonia Lopez who sang with them for a while. Another favorite is "El Botones" with 'double entendre' lyrics about a hotel clerk and the politically incorrect(now anyway, back then it was just simple fun) "El Mudo" which is about a mute person. And these are the danceable songs. There are still the boleros or slower songs. This album has all the "Best Hits" I own it and it always make me smile when I put it on. If you are a already a fan or are new to this band, I highly recommend it.

Sonora Santanera-Latin big band that doesn't do polkas5
If you want energetic latin music, with a band that stays in tune (unlike most Norteño Banda Music) and doesn't rely heavily on the oompahpah, then this is worth your while. They are funny, musically interesting and have great orchestrations. Their Feliz cumpleaños with Silvestre Mercado is wonderful for a birthday. ¿Dónde estás Yolanda? is famous and has been done by many latin and gringo groups, but not with the same verve. Yolanda is the Spanish version of Chuck Berry's Nadine. All in all a good CD.
