Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review
Frankly, it's hard to go wrong with air tools from Senco, and this coil roofing nailer is no exception. It can shoot 11-gauge full round-head roofing nails (from 7/8 to 1-1/2 inches); the magazine has a capacity of 120 nails. This is well-balanced gun, among the lightest roofing nailers on the market at only 5.2 pounds. We really appreciate Senco's Neverlube design, which uses a graphite seal and an internal lubrication system that eliminate the chance of oil staining your work and, of course, cut down on required maintenance. Because of the pin-and-hole locking system, it's virtually impossible to bump the magazine open, so you don't have to worry about spills the way you do with lesser coil nailers. Senco's other nice touches include their well-designed straight-drive guide body, which reduces jams, and the rubber bumpers on the body of the gun that prevent it from sliding down the roof. This nailer has a toolless depth-of-drive adjustment, too, so you don't have to climb down off a roof and hunt for a tool to make a minor adjustment. The gun also comes with an adjustable shingle reveal gauge, a handy bonus feature you won't find in many of the competing nailers. The SCN40 is a sturdy, top-of-the-line roofing nailer, with all the attention to detail Senco is known for. We rank it among the top two or three in its class for weight, reliability, and performance. --Brian Trinen

senco scn40r coil roofing nailer3
My business used these guns for over 2 years. Overall a good nailer but serious problems with every gun in the long run. The entire nose piece would break off. After this happened to three guns, two of these just after the warranty went out I changed brands. Sorry Senco but the price of the nose piece was comparable to buying a new gun.

Senco SCN40R or SCN40R?3
I purchased a Senco Coil Roofing nailer SCN40R for ceramic tile backer board and roofing. Because of its name in the construction field and the guys on jobsites always saying good things about Senco. After many hours of research of other coil nailers Senco became the choice. I purchased one at a local supplier along with a box of inexpensive coil nails (7200) and went to work. It was great, powerful, light, easy to load, nice depth of adjustment, and a spring lock pin for the door.
Adjustable operating pressure is 70-120 psi, worked well for my needs. The next time out the trigger started leaking this is after approximately 800 nails now remember this is a no oil gun self lubricating graphite rings. I called my supplier which suggested returning it for exchange, I did. The next one went to work and after about 400 nails the foam handle pad started to bubble and depth of drive control became inconsistant at a constant 100 psi ending up driving a few nail heads by hand. I emailed Senco tech support about this and the reply suggested I "Pop the bubble with a pin and try adjusting the depth guide" Not what I call real tech support. I mentioned this to the supplier and again suggested just return it. I did, And... bought another one! I refuse to believe three in a row, I'll let you know.

A great nailer5
I bought the nailer initially to install cement backer board for tile. The first nailer I had was a Porter Cable and it jambed on me enough that I took it back after the first use. The Senco is a breeze to use. It has enough power to drive through cement boards with ease. Well I ended up using it to do some big roofing jobs and it worked like a charm. The nailer will go as fast as you can lay shingles. It doesn't use a lot of air either. I use it with a Dewalt 4 gallon compressor and it kicks the compressor on after about 20 nails. As with Senco products I suggest you use Senco nails for it. I tried several cheaper brands and I was not satisfied. Bottom line is if you want a good roofing nailer that you won't have to replace anytime soon then buy this one. If you want to skimp on price buy a cheaper brand. You will be sorry you did.
