Local CD of the Month
"Duke Kahanamoku Presents A Beachboy Party" is a reissue of a rare 1963 album. This live set features Duke Kahanamoku and a host of legendary beachboys--Chick Daniels, Abraham "Fat" Kala, Splash Lyons and others--singing, strumming and no doubt drinking under a banyan at the Outrigger Canoe Club. What the music lacks in polish, it makes up for in sheer unadulterated fun. If you've ever wondered what old-timers meant by "the magic of Waikiki," it's right here on this album. Someone give a copy to the HVB. It was always the guys in the trenches-- the beachboys, the tour guides-- who made Hawai'i a party for everyone. A must for any Hawaiian music collection!" --selected by Brickwood Galuteria, co-host of "The Aloha Morning Show," Hawaiian 105 KINE
These are REAL beachboys from Hawaii...
"Duke Kahanamoku presents A Beachboy Party"-- Let me tell you first off this is not the surfer band from California. These are REAL beachboys from Hawaii who have been playing music and entertaining audiences for years before the other beachboys became so popular. This was actually recorded live "On the beach at Waikiki" at the Outrigger Canoe Club in 1963. It was originally released on vinyl, but good luck trying to find one! This CD of authentic Hawaiian music is much better than your average Hawaiian record. What they have captured on this recorded time capsule so vividly, is the fun that everyone had that evening. These guys know how to have a good time. Listening to this puts you right in the middle of a vintage tropical beach party. This CD has tremendous nostalgic value for Hawaiians and tourists alike, as it memorializes a wonderful part of Hawaii's history which is now all but gone. This was the only time these guys ever recorded themselves so it is truly a collectors item. This CD was digitally remastered and even includes 2 bonus tracks that were left off the original release. This is a perfect compliment to your next Hawaiian luau or tiki party and I highly recommend it. --Aloha, Jeff Chenault Cool & Strange Music! Magazine
