Hilariously bad!
I endorse wholeheartedly the views of the other reviewer here: this film is so bad that it qualifies as an essential purchase. I wish this was available on DVD with the trailer included, as it is the worst trailer ever made.
The Messenger
I like Fred Williamson, but this rubbish is awful.
How vain to direct your own love scene, with an appaliing backing track!
Should be a "Soul Cinema" 2-fer DVD with "Foxtrap"
"The Messenger" may be messy, but it's full of Fred Williamson goodness. He's as cool and tough as ever playing the character Jake Sebastian Turner, who starts out like Cary Grant in "To Catch a Thief" and turns into Charles Bronson in "Death Wish." Christopher Connelly returns from "Foxtrap," and if I thought Cameron Mitchell looked old in "Slaughter" (1972) with Jim Brown, by this time he looks positively decrepit-- all the better for this film. Joe Spinell plays the main bad guy. Locations shift rapidly as a funky soundtrack grooves on. Cars explode. 1980s fashions abound. A few bad lines and worse acting only make everything more fun. And wow is this movie fun! I loved it. The only negative was the pan-and-scan full screen image. MGM/UA-- put this thing on DVD (with "Foxtrap") ASAP!
