Performed for a tiny audience at the renowned Pachyderm Studio in 1998, this CD is the best example of what Indigenous sound like live. While their national debut Things We Do is an excellent introduction to their music, their live shows are far above and beyond any studio recording in terms of energy and performance, as the entire band frequently takes off into 10-minute jams to mind-blowing effect. Live at Pachyderm Studio provides a taste of that, including extended versions of several previously recorded songs, as well as previously unavailable material. An item of special interest is the cover of Hendrix's "Red House"; the guitarist's influence on Indigenous frontman Mato Nanji is undeniable. The production on this album is so clear, putting it in the stereo and cranking it up might be almost as good as hearing them live. This band is addictive, and Live at Pachyderm Studio is the perfect fix. --Genevieve Williams

Customer Reviews

WOW ! !5
If you like your blues-rock driving, fast, and energetic, then this is the CD for you. I feel that this CD captures the power that Indigenous brings to the live stage, much more than their two studio releases. I could listen to this CD for hours. Sure, Mato draws heavily from SRV and Hendrix (note their cover of "Red House"), but he reveals not only his ability to handle the styles of the masters, but also his talent to craft a new musical niche. Pte, Wanbdi, and Horse help bring the music on the CD to an unbelievable plateau. You can hear the fuller band sound on their studio releases, but this one showcases Mato's guitar prowess. My recommendation: Listen to everything that Indigenous puts out to appreciate their versatility.

THIS IS THE REAL DEAL- SRV MUST BE SMILING!5
If you don't have this CD yet get it NOW!, paint an 11 on your player, turn it to it and sit back. I just ordered my 3rd copy, this one to pass around to friends (others car & home). People got to hear the blues and this is THE REAL DEAL. When they come to your area don't mis-em live!

Their live show blew me away...5
I saw this band of 4 young native americans open for Kenny Wayne Shepard and BB King. Their live show was phenomenol with strong blues influence of Stevie Ray Vaughn. I thought they blew Kenny Wayne off the stage. BB King is still untouchable though at 73 years old! This CD captures them well.
