A very underrated, underappreciated CD
Around the second half of 1988, it was just 5 years after Quiet Riot was bursting onto the mainstream with their hit record called METAL HEALTH. This album, however, was destined to be a disaster before it was ever recorded. Former frontman, Kevin DuBrow was insulting his peers and his record company, etc, the people there to help them. The public and music industy hated him unanimously, which helped make their next records commercial disasters. In 1987, Quiet Riot, clinging onto the little glory they still had, dumped DuBrow in favor of former Rough Cutt vocalist Paul Shortino, and they also brough Sean McNabb to play bass (who is currently in Great White) and Jimmy Waldo (formerly of Alcatraz) on keyboards. The result is a very different, very good, new Quiet Riot. These eleven songs are an incredible collection. The guitars on songs like Stay With Me Tonight, Coppin a Feel, King of the Hill, Callin the Shots are a lot darker, and the bad screaming of Kevin Dubrow is replaced with the full, bluesy vocals of Paul Shortino. Quiet Riot had everything going for them, except for the fact that they were Quiet Riot. I feel that if the name of the band was some name other than Quiet Riot, this album would have sold a lot better. Which is sad because Paul Shortino is one of the most underrated hard rock vocalists of all time. If you had the curiousity to click on this page for more info, I highly reccomend you get this disc.
Very good Quiet Riot album
In 1988, Quiet Riot was now Carlos Cavazo and Frankie Banali. The two had fired co-fouder and singer of the band, Kevin DuBrow. Bassist Chcuk Wright had left. The two hired Rough Cutt singer, Paul Shortino and bassist, Sean McNabb. This new line-up made this self titled album(when the band was together in 1978, they released a self titled album in Japan. We like to call this album "Quiet Riot 88".)
Stay With Me Tonight- Great way to open up the album. The chorus is pretty catchy.
Callin The Shots- Some good vocals from Paul and nice solos. This song also asks the burning question: Kevin who?
Run To You- Soft song. Again, Paul sings great.
I'm Fallin- *note: some of these songs sound the same. Move your fingers to the beat so you remember it* Good song. The chorus makes it memorable.
King Of The Hill- great song although there are some corny lyrics in it. The chorus, again, is great. You can have a laugh when you here Paul's threats. He says turing the solo, "Show em where it's at Carlos!"
The Joker- very good song. Makes you want to dance!
Lunar Obsesstion- a solo. Listen to "Battle Axe" off "Metal Health".
Don't Wanna Be Your Fool- another soft one but it's so pretty. Paul's vocals rock and Carlos plays great!
Coppin A Feel- Not the best but good song.
In A Rush- A fast song which makes it memorable.
Empty Promisses- Although it's not the best closing ever, this song is just great. Sounds like Journey a bit!
This a great album and I hope you buy it. However, this album didn't do well in the charts and in 1989, Quiet Riot broke up for the second time.
Paul Shortino Is A Awesome Vocalist
This is the best Quiet riot Album I beleive there was, Paul came from a awesome 80's metal band called ROUGH CUTT. There fist album was called ROUGH CUTT and there second album was called ROUGH CUTT WANTS YOU. IF YOU DON'T HAVE THESE TWO ALBUMS GET THEM!!!!!!!
