Jermaine Dupri is at it again, Say my name!
Anyone that has listened to any projects that Jermaine Dupri has produced or executive produced knows what to expect. He has also produced a lot of songs and done a lot of remixes for famous artists. Kris Kross, Da Brat, Xscape, Jagged Edge, His own CD, "Life in 1472", etc. The "Big Momma's House" soundtrack is Jermaine's latest project. As usual, Jermaine does not disappoint. To start off the CD, you get the slammin' "That's What I'm Looking For" (Remix) w/Da-Brat, Jermaine Dupri and Missy Elliott. The original version is tight, but Missy and JD elevate the remix to another level, although Jermaine uses the same beat. While this is a tight song, the two gems of this soundtrack are "What I'm Gon' To Do To You" w/Kandi from Xscape and "Treated Like Her" w/Latocha Scott and Chante Moore. Kandi takes what her and Shek'spere have been doing for other artists like TLC, Mya, Joe and Destiny's Child, into her own accord with her song. If this is what a Kandi CD is going to sound like then I'll get it on the first day. "Treated Like Her" is also a gem. LaTocha Scott picks up from where she left off on "The Best Man" sountrack, (Liar, Liar) with the song "Treated Like Her". Other highlights on the soundtrack include, Jagged Edge and Blaque's "You Can Always Go" and Jermaine Dupri, Nas, and Monica with an original and a remix version of "I Got To Have It". This soundtrack is a must buy for any Jermaine Dupri fan.
Big Momma is in the house!
Normally soundtracks usually are bland and poorly arranged, but this one may not have been the best but is still a hit mixed with plenty of uptempos with a few ballads thrown in. Some songs (Jessica-GET UP, Kurupt-RADIO) could have been better off not making the cut, but every album must have it's flaws. Some of the more better tracks are as followed:
Da Brat-Blazin' hot remix with JD and Missy! JD worked his producing magic and created a much needed remix of this already hit song.
Kandi (What I'm Gon' Do To You)-Great debut song! Definitely one of those 'women impowering' tracks she is so well-known for doing, very upbeat and original.
Lil Bow Wow (Bounce With Me)-This track REALLY shows off this youngster's mic skills and shows his great potential in the rap game, the title says it all.
Marc Nelson (Love's Not Love)-One of the only two ballads on the album and possibly the best (although LaTocha Scott and Chante' Moore's TREATED LIKE HER is very soulful as well). Marc's vocals and powerful lyrics makes this track worth the slowing down of the album's tempo.
Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz (Ooh Big Momma)-This has got to be the crunkest song on the album! Although it doesn't show the best lyricism in the world, it will still be the life of any party or club!
Other tracks worth mentioning is the uptempo duet by Jagged Edge & Blaque YOU CAN ALWAYS GO, Da Brat & Vita's BIG MOMMA'S THEME with Destiny's Child performing backgrounds and Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz's second contribution to the album I LIKE DEM. And just to warn you, the album is edited (but not excessively) which is somewhat a good thing, but if you were expecting the explicit version to some of these songs, then you may not be able to find them on here considering there is only one version. The soundtrack is still worth the purchase despite that small little catch.:)
KILLER TRACK!
IT'S THE S-O S-O D-E-F M-O-B! A GREAT SOUNDTRACK. GREAT MUSICAL TALENT ALL AROUND; SINGIN, RAPPIN, EVERYTHING.
