Customer Reviews

A must have for all Ernest Tubb fans with great sound5
This CD really does have these 25 tracks which are among Tubb's biggest hits from 1944-1949 including 2 tracks with the Andrews Sisters (essentially both sides of the same 78), 1 track of Red Foley, his version of Blue Christmas, and of course many of the signature hits such as "Walking The Floor Over You," "Soldier's Last Letter," "Forever Is Ending Today," "Letters Have No Arms," "Rainbow at Midnight," and many others with great sound. I had found that several of the tracks on here have cleaner backgrounds and better sound than many of the same tracks on the now out of print "Country Music Hall of Fame" CD that MCA issued in 1991 that are also on this CD including "Walking The Floor Over You." If you area honky tonk fan, a country music fan in general or an Ernest Tubb fan, this CD is a must have for 25 of his earliest hits for a great price. Several of these songs are also on the Millennium Collection with 3 more recent tracks, but this and the Hall of Fame combined make a more comprehensive collection than the Millennium Collection, but the 3 tracks on that collection make the disc worth buying so that you can burn those tracks onto CD-R (assuming you have a CD burner) and then resell the Millennium CD. Buy this CD no matter how big a fan of E.T. you are. Enjoy E.T. at his earliest and just like any CD with all original recordings, E.T. at his best.

Slippin' around (obscene)4
I purchased this CD to listen to "Slippin' around" which was banned
by the Canadian Government (circa 1949) as being obscene.
Turns out that the whole CD was great.

Best Single Disk available 5
This set covers roughly the same period as the Proper Box Set but focuses on the hits alone. Sound quality is excellent and the music is quintessential Texas Troubador, including the original versions of most of his biggest hits. Ernest was in his vocal prime with these recordings, and (although his bands here were not as good as later collections -particularly the mid-60s batch), they augment ET's efforts in an appropriate manner. These are the songs that made ET a superstar.
