This particular model, the SDT-D7000/PB External Tape Drive, is identical to Sony’s SDT-7000/PB Internal Tape Drive except that it connects externally via a SCSI cable rather than mounting internally. The unit offers 4 GB capacity (with no compression) and 8 GB capacity (with 2:1 compression), and a 1566 kB per second sustained data transfer rate. The unit is read and write compatible with all DDS-2 and DDS-1 tape formats, and features Sony’s Super Head Cleaner mechanism to lessen the need for periodic cleaning.
