Great live album by an underrated artist!
I already own "Spirit Of Music", produced by Don Was, which is a great CD. Then this comes along. Great performances by Ziggy & the Melody makers and good live adaptaions of his and his father's songs. I really enjoy "Beautiful Day" and "Jammin'". "I Know You Don't Care About Me" has some very powerful lyrics as well. I know some people complain Ziggy isn't an exact copy of his father when it comes to writing songs, but why should he be? Most of his songs stand up just fine on their own. Get this CD, listen to it and find that inner peace!
Ziggy Live At Last
Being a fan of Ziggy Marley for 12+ years it's great to get a live CD of him, with his brother, sisters and band the Melody Makers. I have nearly all the ZM & the Melody Makers CDs/albums and this provides a good taste of their music. It also has some good covers of their late father's music. Ziggy's music has come along way since the early days when he was a teenager. I like all of their stuff, but my favorite CDs are probably "Conscious Party" and "One Bright Day". Ziggy & the Melody Makers music is more old time reggae than the current wave of hip hop/rap. I've seen them in concert 5-6 times. This CD is quite representative of what you would see if you saw them in concert today. Unfortunately, I haven't seen him for about 4 years. It seems that they are always part of a big fest when they tour these days rather than as headliners or solo, which is too bad, because they could easily play a great 2-3 hours alone.
Both Ziggy and Stephen Marley sound a lot like their late great dad. Great soulful voices filled with spirit. Check it out, you won't be disappointed. Respect.
I've got the power to move ya...
This is an awesome collection of live songs by ZM&MM recorded from 1995 to 1997. This is a great introduction to ZM&MM if you haven't heard much from them yet. If you have heard a lot of them, what are you waiting for? You won't be disappointed with this. It's just as good as any of Bob Marley or Peter Tosh's live albums. Stephen sings the lead vocals on several songs and shares the lead with Ziggy on a couple other ones. The rest are all Ziggy. The only song I tend to skip is "Free Like We Want 2B," but every other song is highly enjoyable. My favorites are "Higher Vibration," "One Good Spliff", "People Get Ready", and "Stir It Up." The only thing this left me wondering was "When are they going to release Vol. 2?" (I doubt they ever will since the band is "broken up," at least for the time being.)
