Like the similar Pokémon craze, the animated Digimon TV series has spawned a full-length theatrical film. The two phenomena are similar: kids collect monsters and go on adventures. While Pokémon has a sense of odyssey and a wisp of a moral, Digimon is flat-out rough-and-tumble adventure. Can an adult figure out the digi-details of the digi-world? Here's a digi-shot. That world is full of evolving monsters that live and fight in their own ways. The digi-world and real world can intermix, and one of the portals is the Internet. So kids sit at their laptops and fight with their digi-monsters in an abstract environment that looks like something from Tron but with none of the cool. The first 50 of 83 minutes is backstory that takes place eight years earlier. So everyone is grown up (as the time frame leaps over all the original Digimon TV shows), and Digimon and humans interact on Earth. A bad digi-virus is bent on revenge, and it will take more than a laptop to defend the planet. That said, if the end of the world ever looms, a golden digi-egg will be a good thing to have. Great Movie!
Three great short films from Japan based on the popular series come together in edited form to make 90 minutes of entertainment. And having Kari, one of the characters, narate the story gives the appearance of one story, which adds to the strength of this movie

The first movie is approximately 10-15 minutes long and details what happened four years before the first season of the show. Tai and his sister Kari see a digi egg exit from their computer screen and a small Digimon is born. Kari becomes attached to this creature. Eventually, the Digimon digivolves to Greymon and protects the city from Parrotmon.

The first movie has it's moment. Young Kari is adorable and even in young Tai we already begin to see Tai the leader of the Digidestined that we see in the first season of Digimon. The friendship between Kari and Agumon also adds a touching element to the story. It's almost heartbreaking when, after the Digimon disappears, Kari yells out, "Don't you wanna play with me anymore?"

We fast forward four years later. The second movie takes place after the first season of the show. It's unclear exactly when. Izzy, one of the Digidestined, joins with Tai to try and defeat this strange Digimon who is invading the internet. With the help of their Digimon, Agumon and Tentomon, they try to battle this strange Digimon. But this Digimon keeps digivolving at an accelerated rate. So Izzy contacts the other Digidestined and manages to get Matt and TK to help along with their Digimon...Patamon and Gabumon. Agumon and Gabumon are able to digivolve to their Mega level...and eventually join together and defeat this evil Digimon....or so they think...

The second movie has a lot of action...but every few minutes, the action goes down a bit so we can have some humor. The main subplot of the second movie involves a silly argument between Tai and Sora. Tai tried to give Sora a hair clip for her birthday and Sora thinks this is Tai's way of criticizing her hairstyle. :) Women! They always have to analyze everything. Anyway...the battles are intense and the music just great. Many songs from the tv show are played during the battle and you can't help but sing along...if you like the music, of course.

The third movie takes place four years later...Sometime during the second season. (Actually, the second season still hasn't reached the point at which this part of this movie is set. This is clearly seen because in the show, Patamon and Gatomon don't have the ability to warp digivolve yet, an ability they clearly have in this movie.) Anyway...in this part of the movie, we learn that the evil Digimon four years ago was created by Willis and is actually a computer virus. And it wasn't really defeated. It somehow escaped into the real world and has infected one of Willis' digimon. Willis is also a Digidestined and has twin digimon. Anyway...for the past four years, one of Willis's Digimon was infected with the virus and making Willis' life miserable. But with the help of Davis and the other Digidestined, they manage to defeat the virus again and free Cocomon from the virus' control.

The third movie, while not as charming as the first two, has some moments. Humor is one of it's strenght. The plot is a bit vague...but it doesn't hurt the movie in general.

So, if you are a fan of the show, you will not be dissappointed by this movie.

Digimon: The Movie is a segment of three movies, all relased seperately in Japan. In movie 1, before season one (the original airings on telivision), Tai (Taichi) and Kari (Hikari), two special characters, meet Koromon at ages 7 and 4. Tai is 7, Kari is 4. They meet a special Digimon who turns out to be Tai's partner in season 1. This movie was short and to me, pretty un-interesting, but I loved it anyhow!

Movie 2, aka Part 2, takes place after season 1. Izzy (Koushiro) discovers a DigiEgg on the computer. It hatches in to a baby digimon, and begins to eat up data on the internet. Soon, people from all over the world are watching the battle between Diaboromon (strongest level of digimon) on their computers. Even Yolei (Miyako) from season 2 at a young age appears, sending e-mails along with other kids to Tai, Izzy, Matt (Yamato), and T.K. (Takeru). Eventually, they beat Diaboromon.

Movie 3 takes place during season 2. Davis (Daisuke), Yolei, Cody (Iori), T.K. and Kari are hanging out at a beach. Davis, Yolei, and Cody are all new Digidestined, mind you. They meet Willis and his Digimon Terriermon. He had twin Digimon, Terriermon and Lopmon, but Lopmon ran away and grew up confused and evil. Now Lopmon, aka "Endigomon", tells Willis to "go back", as Willis comes from Colorado. WIllis created Diaboromon when he wanted three Digimon instead of two. But, when he made Diaboromon, a virus infected him and so started movie 2. But, they cut out HALF OF THIS MOVIE in the American version. Endigomon originally captures the old Digidestined in order to find Willis. THEY CUT THIS OUT! HALF OF THE MOVIE! But, it was so cool, my grandparents even liked it! "Kids in America" by Len is playing during the credits. PRODIGIOUS MOVIE! I also have a movie clip of the cut scenes in Japanese. PRODIGIOUS MOVIE!

Who remembers Pokemon anymore?
Pokemon has recently been COMPLETLY eclipsed by Digimon. The growing tv series Has had (just this summer) a movie made about it. The movie comes in three segments. In the beginning of the movie we see the ever cloudy first contact. When Greymon protects the city from Parrotmon. they never truly explained this encounter in the TV show. And after seeing the movie I belive that I understand it much better. But i will not spoil it for you. In the second segment (four years later) We see the digidestined as they were in the first season. Though I'm a bit critical of the coloring. I think it might work well with this segment. The Basic plot of this segment is that Tia and Izzy (digidestined) are fighting an internet digimon-virus thingy, with Matt and T.K. While all of this is going on Tia is trying to patch things up with his friend Sora (digidestined). Lots of action and feeling in this segment. In the last segment the new Digidestined (second season) are spit up. on two different sides of the world. they must work with an outsider Willis (Digidestined), to save the world.

I can only hope that the tv series catches up to the movie soon. Not your ordinary action flick ( like some other Copycat-NoPlot-Stupid-series-"mon" not named in this note) , where kids are bestowed with special powers and told that they must save the world...Ok. so it's exactly like that, But more. this story has a beautyful plot, felling, and action. I hope all that read this review will find it helpful and, then rush out and buy the movie.
