This sturdy plastic car gives toddlers and young preschoolers the basic thrills of a real car, while parents can relax, knowing that this cherry-red sports car can go only as fast as their kids' little feet can carry them. Children sit on a bench-style driver's seat and poke their legs through to the ground. When they start walking, the car begins to scoot. The front wheels swirl like stroller wheels, making them especially responsive to the steering wheel. The front dash features a pretend key with a Little Tikes key chain and a horn button that beeps when pushed. A small storage bin in back can carry traveling gear or simply a stash of road snacks. Approximately 35 inches tall, 25 inches long, and 16 inches wide. --Gail Hudson

NIGHTMARE to assemble!!!!
In addition to the tools required listed on the 2 page, 27 step instructions, you will also need: A sledgehammer, Xanax, liquid dish soap, power drill and band aides.
I will start by saying so far my son likes this car. It is still in the house though since the roof is not screwed in because there were no holes to put the screws into. I do not own a power drill, so my son will have to wait for Grandpa to come and finish assembly before I can let him take it outside.
It took 2 hours for me and my brother (both handy enough) to put the car together. The instructions could be explained better plus the pieces did not fit right. For the life of us we could not get the roof on. The left yellow arm would not snap in and neither would the roof. We literally pounded it with a hammer and nothing. We even turned the car upside down and tried pushing them on that way. Then we went on-line and checked the reviews (something I should have done before purchasing the car). A reviewer suggested using dish soap. That and every ounce of strength in your body will do the trick. All the pieces for the roof required the dish soap in order to snap in.
Overall it seems like a durable car since we pounded sections with a hammer and it didn't crack. The door could stay closed better though and the cheesy key and horn could have been a little more updated.
Definitely pay the extra $$ ... whatever the cost ... to have this assembled for you. Can you put a price on your sanity?
The injury to my arm received while trying to pop the roof on is healing nicely.
Lil Tykes ROCKS again!
I am addicted to the lil tykes name. This is another hit in our home. It is sturdy and sun! My daughter got this for her 2nd birthday. She LOVES cars and was excited when she saw it.
It has been tumped over on its side and used as a stool, slid all over the house. It withstands EVERYTHING my daughter dishes out!
The extra compartment behind the seat is perfect for a sippy cup as well. But BEWARE only one child fits in this awsome Lil Tykes car!
We played with them nearly every day for 3 years!
I have twin boys, and boy did they LOVE these things! We did have to get 2 of them of course :) They sat outside in the weather, both winter & summer, and didn't look much different this year, than when we got them 3 years ago.
It's too bad that the sound effects weren't attached to the car instead of the key chain - the key chain of course became lost some where along the road.
My only other warning is the age listing on this toy. They say it is from 18 months to 5 years, and they are correct. After five, my guys started thinking up too many dangerous things to do with them. So we had to hand them down to our neighbors. A family with 4 small children who are now all fighting over the 2 cars - (grin).
But my children really played with these things almost every day, and they both were not happy when it was time to get rid of them - well worth every cent we paid for the pair of them.
