PLEASE Release This Series On DVD!
I agree completely with the earlier reviewer. For fans of Peckinpah, westerns, or vintage television the news that this series will finally be released on DVD is akin to learning that a previously-lost Leonardo painting has been found... Big News!
I first became acquainted with this brilliant & shamefully-overlooked series about ten years ago when I first studied Peckinpah's work in grad. school. I've only seen one episode, but was blown away by it. To say that it was years ahead of its (1960) time is an understatement, to say the least.
If & when this series is released in DVD, I'll buy it immediately regardless of the price. I'll remortgage my house if I have to!
Let's hope that Peckinpah's great TV movie - the adaptation of Katherine Ann Porter's "Noon Wine" - will also be released on DVD sometime soon!
Vintage Peckinpah
This series needs to be released on DVD, it's a classic western
from vintage director Sam Peckinpah, if it's not released soon, it'll be completely forgotten and never seen again, if the DVD people still have this show locked up in some safe somewhere it
is there responsibilty to release it and amaze the next generation with the brilliance of early television.
The Very Best
To my mind, The Westerner is one of the absolute finest series ever
presented on TV and the very best western ever. It not only deserves
but demands presentation on DVD. I can't wait to buy it.
