Amazon.com Product Description
For impressive performance features combined with great picture quality, the Canon Sure Shot 105S is the perfect fit. Outdoor shots are captured vibrantly through the multifunctional zoom lens, and indoor shots are equally colorful with the built-in flash. The flash slides out to the side to maximize its compact size. Red-eye reduction is standard.

The display on the back of the camera shows date and time, and is easy to use. Also, the camera dial can adjust to different types of shots, such as night, action, and stills. Fast and easy load access makes it even more comfortable and simple to use.

From the Manufacturer
The new Sure Shot 105 Zoom S puts the power of a 2.8x Zoom right at your fingertips in an attractive, compact camera. Zoom from 38mm to 105mm at the touch of a button. The latest in a long line of high quality, easy-to-use and affordable compact cameras from Canon, the new Sure Shot 105 Zoom S also features Canon's 3-point Smart Autofocus, Best Shot Dial, and Exposure Control. The high-speed 2.8x zoom lens lets you create dazzling pictures that will impress friends and family. At the touch of a button you can zoom in for richly detailed intimate close-ups. Then, zoom out for a bold wide-angle that captures the entire scene.

Canon's 3-point Smart Autofocus technology uses three focusing sensors to "read" the scene and automatically set the precise focus - even when your subject is off center. For more creativity, select Center 1-point focusing for precise focus of a single subject. With Canon's Best Shot Dial, you've got 5 shooting modes to choose from right at your fingertips. Thanks to these modes, you'll always shot with confidence knowing you can handle any situation that comes your way. Choose from Auto, Portrait, Night-Scene, Real-Time Release or Spot metering mode.

By increasing the distance between the lens and flash unit, the retractable multi-mode Light Guide Flash significantly reduces the "red-eye effect". Plus, the camera also features Canon's built-in Red-Eye Reduction mini-lamp that fires before the flash, virtually eliminating those spooky red eyes. You also have Slow-Sync for evenly illuminated nighttime pictures at the touch of a button. With the Sure Shot 105 Zoom S, you've got the ability to override the exposure to deliberately lighten or darken a photo. Setting the Exposure Compensation to +1.5 EV gives a lighter result - ideal for portraits against a bright sky. The - 1.5 EV setting does just the opposite, darkening the scene for a dramatic effect.

Dioptric Adjustment allows you to adjust the camera to accommodate your individual eyesight and make shooting more relaxed and comfortable. With the Sure Shot 105 Zoom S Date Model, you have the ability to record the date or time right on the pictures. Programmed through 2049, you have the option of imprinting year/month/day, month/day/year, day/hour/month (24 hour display), or no imprint.

A happy replacement for a broken old friend5
I dropped and broke my old (1970s) Canon AE1-Program two weeks before my daughter's wedding. I read Consumer Reports camera section and then checked a local camera shop to make sure this was what I wanted in a modern camera and was indeed a best buy. We shot nine rolls of film at the wedding. All turned out great except for some night shots and that was my fault. I properly set it for nighttime but too late realized that the night setting slows the shutter speed and so I got some movement of people and lights. In the future I will use that setting only when there is no subject or lights movement. The Sure Shot is very easy to load and shoot, has an excellent flash, has adjustments for special use. The auto focus feature is a delight. My old camera had a zoom lens and I was worried this one might not be as good. Not to worry, it works great. The camera has several special features that I look forward to using for portraits and nature photos. I am happy with the camera and would buy it again.

A Perfect Portrait5
I've had my Cannon 105s for three years. The pictures I get with it are excellent-clear and colorful(hint: always use premium processing; one-hour processing isn't worth the compromise). Mainly, I photograph people, and I find that Cannon cameras are unsurpassed for portraits. In this camera I love the ease of use. The zoom is not preset, allowing for a zoom of any distance between the two settings. It does have bells and whistles I don't use often, but it's nice to have the options. I have children; they don't tend to hold a pose very long, or cooperate for candids, but I don't miss much with my sure shot.

You can do better...3
After doing a bit of research, I decided to buy this camera. After 6 months and dozens of rolls of film, I'd have to say this was NOT a good buy for me.

First, I'll admit the outdoor shots are wonderful! Very full of color -- very vibrant -- the only reason this camera is getting its 3 starts.

Unfortunately, I'm extremely disappointed in the quality of the prints that I have taken indoors. My indoor shots are lacking much of the vibrancy that I see in the outdoor shots. And the red-eye feature... it stinks! I use red-eye reduction 99% of the time when indoors, and 95% of my indoor pics have horrible red eye! I have compared this with other pics I have taken at the same time with another cheaper Kodak camera, and the pics taken with the SureShot are definitely of lesser quality -- both in red eye reduction and color/crispness.

On another note... This camera does have a number of features. The display on the back of the camera where these can be manipulated is easy to use. My complaint here is that the "dial" can easily be moved. So, putting the camera in my purse or handling it has sometimes turned the dial to an unwanted setting.
