Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Argentine tenor saxophonist Gato Barbieri took the saxophone style of John Coltrane and adapted it to South American tango and folk idioms. His trademark piercing tenor cries ring through on this 1999 live date from New York City's Latin Quarter club. Clad in dark sunglasses and a black Bolivar hat, Barbieri leads his combo in a nice set consisting of new tunes like the Satie-like "Mystica" and "Llamerito y Tango"(also featured in the 2000 documentary Calle 54) and his classic cuts "Last Tango in Paris" "Europa," and the danceable "Viva Emiliano Zapata." This pleasing concert reveals that Gato Barbieri's stage persona is as earthy and ethereal as his unique Afro-Andean moves and grooves. --Eugene Holley Jr.

Customer Reviews

typical Gato,3
I'm little bit dissapointed. At times Gato's sax sounded a tad out of tune & his vocals on one of the songs was a tad indistinct( we do know Gato to be a laid back person). I played this on both my full HD (Plasma & LCD) TV's and found the lighting pretty dark, even after adjusting the colour. The total number of songs on the DVD is also a tad low.
Overall i'd give the DVD 3 stars,
