The PERFECT Christmas party music5
So you're having an office holiday party. Or folks over for dinner. You want music. But please, no Celine Dion, cloying childrens' choirs, overt churchiness, singing cats or 101 strings. This is the disc to play - songs everyone knows, played with intelligence and style. Neither too edgy nor too sleepy - it hits just the right note.

Swinging Christmas5
I first heard a track from this on Netscape Radio (thanks Netscape!), and within 5 seconds I had to find out who was playing. This is definitely not background music, smooth "jazz" or audio wallpaper, though it is very elegant. Harry Allen has a rich tone, tremendous energy, and great lyrical flow. The backing group is essentially the Larry Goldings Trio, the very best in current jazz. All play with an enormous sense of swing and pure enjoyment.

One of the best Jazz Christmas CD's out there, period!5
I immediately purchased this CD after hearing the first track, "O Christmas Tree" on Pandora Radio. Before that I had not heard of Harry Allen or this Christmas CD. It was a great discovery. The first track has a definite groove that continues on throughout the disc. Allen's smooth tenor playing goes well with the Hammond organ trio that he teams up with. The musicians are all top shelf and Larry Goldings incredible pedal work on the Hammond provides a swinging bass line for each track. John Pizzarelli's vocal on "Blue Christmas" takes that tune to new levels of hipness as well. This CD will get played year after year and it will never get stale!
