Good Choice For The Holidays!
Evidence Music's "Blue Xmas" is an all-instrumental recording featuring approximately 30 blues musicians, spanning several generations. The list of performers is virtually a who's who of blues musicians and is not limited to artists who have contracts with Evidence. For example, Alligator recording artists Michael Burks, Corey Harris and Rusty Zinn are all featured on the disc as are Ruf Records Walter Trout, Rykodisc's Alvin YoungBlood Hart as well as many, many others.

Putting together an all instrumental Christmas CD featuring several star performers is, of course, nothing new and such disc's appear in all genre from Rock's "Merry Axemas" to Jazz's "Smooth Jazz Christmas" to Classical's "Classical Christmas Instrumentals" to "Bluegrass Christmas" to "New Age Christmas" and every thing in-between. Blues fans are now afforded equal treatment.

The song selections for the CD are your run of the mill, household name tunes, such as "White Christmas" "Let It Snow" and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" and there are no new numbers on the disc. The advantage to selecting these songs is that the listener can easily identify them without listening to vocals. Also, while these are rather milk toast selections, the performances, while sticking as close to possible to the more traditional versions, allows each artist some room for artistic expression. In that regard, the performance's of all musicians on this disc are several notches above what you will find on other Christmas CD's making it a welcome addition to any holiday collection.

I bought this CD for my husband for Christmas. He does not like Christmas music at all and gets tired of me playing it at home. So I thought I would take a chance and order this and he loved it. We played it over and over thoughout the holidays! Thanks so much!

Very nice album
I could not find and short "previews" of the songs on this album, so I was a little reluctant to buy it. But now that I have it, I love it. This album, (as mentioned in the description) is all instrumental. This is a collection of popular Christmas music, all of the tunes are played upbeat. Many will have you tapping your toes. The blues enthusiast will like the album, but so will most anyone else. If you're not "into" the Blues, let me tell you that the musicians play straightforward. There aren't any abstract or "out there" renditions. It makes a super change of pace album.
