Cortot in what he does best
Cortot is one of the legendary pianists. This recording of the preludes and the ballades is better for him than the etudes. There are fewer technical demands and allow him to show of his poetic and interpretive gifts.

The engineers have done a credible job in making these recordings from the 1940s sound pretty good. I like the softer and less brilliant piano sound that was the norm back then. Today is just too bright and harsh for my tastes. But that is another story.
