Despite its unauthorized status, this hourlong documentary offers a comprehensive survey of the Beatles' career, from the escalation of Beatlemania to the band's disintegration in 1970. It's a suitable primer for neophytes, not as illuminating as the epic-length Beatles Anthology (how could it be?), but offering material that can't be found elsewhere, including interview clips with associates from the Beatles' early days (such as Mersey Beat editor Bill Harry and former Cavern Club owner Ray McFall). A few myths are corrected, and familiar archival footage covers all the Beatle basics, from the "bigger than Jesus" backlash to speculation, disregarded here as erroneous, that Yoko Ono broke up the Beatles. Due to licensing restrictions, music is supplied by the "Bootleg Beatles," a look-alike nostalgia group seen in a closing segment as a pale echo of the Fab Four, playing to the kind of younger audience that this video is intended for. --Jeff Shannon
From the Back Cover
This one-hour documentary recounts the musical career of the "Fab Four" in its entirety: from their early days in Liverpool to the peak of their success as the world's most successful pop group. The film is largely archival and built around extensive footage that chronicles the phenomenon of Beatlemania as it rapidly spreads around the globe. Much of the material has not been seen before and includes a number of interviews with the Beatles at critical moments in their career; plus fascinating footage from their final American tour. To complete the film there is also recent footage and retrospective interviews with members of the Beatles' entourage as well as those who have spent time analyzing and evaluating the Beatles' musical and social impact on our lives.

Don't Buy This....................................
If you are some kind of bad documentary junkie who can't get enough of the VH1 Behind the Music ..., this is the video for you. Beatles fans, stay away! I'd really only give this "specialty" item one half star. Not one note of Beatles music is on this tape (the makers obviously didn't have the time or money to actually get licensed fab four tunes). Instead, we get a blend of elevator muzak and other sound-alike liverpudlian bands, neither of which could fool a toddler into thinking it was them. Not since the Ed Rudy "live" rip-offs of the 1960's have I seen such a blatant violation of the Sacred Beatles' name. I spit on this tape.Adding insult to injury, a bunch of "groupies" share meaningless tidbits of information with us, none of which having much relevence to Beatles' history. Aside from some rare interview material it is utterly useless and a terrible disgrace. BEWARE!
worthwhile,but barley
I really anticipated this video being a die-hard fan of the Bea tles. But there is precious little new information and footage. There is too much commentary from people that I am not interested in. This reinforces my feeling that the producers needed something to fill in the gap.The video runs about 60 minutes and at times fleshes out film we are all familiar with but very briefly. If you are new to the Beatles or have a casual interest and don't want to spend the money for the Anthology ,you might enjoy this.As for me this was just a momentary fix!
