Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover
First there was Airplane! Then came The Naked Gun series. This t ime Leslie Nielsen is even more far out than ever in 2001: A Space Travesty, a hila rious comedy that dares to spoof where no one's spoofed before: on another planet.

When the president of the United States is kidnapped by aliens and replaced with a clone, the police call on Marshall "Dick" Dix (Nielsen) of the International Security Force to he lp rescue him--and quickly, before they clone the rest of the world's leaders. With the f ate of the world in his clumsy hands, Dix heads to the planet Vegan, a very strange place run by an evil doctor and inhabited by aliens who, having learned to speak English from wa tching television, all talk like different movie stars. After engaging in some freaky lun ar socializing, Dix joins forces with sexy officer Cassandra Menage (Ophélie Winter) and m aster of disguise Captain di Pasquale (Ezio Greggio) to rescue the saxophone-playing presi dent. They return to Washington, D.C., and accomplish their mission of replacing the clon ed president with the real president. Or do they?

Customer Reviews

For Insomniacs And Zombies Only.1
Poor Leslie Nielson. After making a couple of funny movies with the Zucker Bros (NAKED GUN series, AIRPLANE) he is now stuck with low grade spoofs. SPY HARD, DRACULA: DEAD AND LOVING IT, WRONGFULLY ACCUSED and now this, which is worse than any of the aforementioned. I won't bother going into detail because this is just not funny. In fact, its downright boring. Arthur C Clarke should sue the makers of this movie for playing on the title of 2001. If you're already dead from the neck up you may find something of merit in this movie, if not don't waste your time.

A waste of Leslie Nielsen's talents2
The first part was promising, but the rest became very messy with a confusing plot and poor direction. The DVD release is not widescreen, for some unfathomable reason. A disappointment.

Very dissappointing1
Leslie Nielsen is usually a very funny comedic actor, but "2001: A Space Travesty" is exactly what its name says: a travesty of acting, writing and directing.
