Album Description
Returning to the pure smooth jazz vibe of his best-selling first album, saxman Steve Cole conquers the country with 'NY LA'. Soulfully rooted in richly textured R&B grooves, Cole has earned three #1 smooth jazz hits from his first two albums. Warner Brothers. 2003.
Customer Reviews
Steve Cole has just released an instant classic
Steve Cole's third CD release "NY/LA", has proven itself to be one of the years best albums. Everything from the disco inspired funk of "Everyday" and "On Broadway" to the velvety smooth "Love Letter" and "Close your Mind, Keep it Live", Steve Cole demonstrates his ability to mix smooth jazz, disco, and R&B into a delicious music set. His third album shares his second CD's influence but the formula is fresh enough to distinguish it on its own. Simply put, if you loved Steve Cole's "Between Us" album, you will love "NY/LA". If you merely liked Cole's "Between Us", you probably like his new album even more. Jazzheads, do yourself a favor and pick up "NY/LA" if you haven't already done so!
This Is A Classic!
Every now and then, an artist creates something that is so beautiful and enduring that it sets a standard for others to reach. This is such an effort. Steve Cole has created a Smooth Jazz masterpiece. I am glad to see that creative musicians such as he are taking the genre to new and different places with their music. If you are a Smooth Jazz fan, NY LA should have a place of promenence in your collection. It is highly recommended!
Funky
Is this jazz??! Well if so Steve Cole is turning it around in a very interesting way. His almost disco-inspired grooves on "Off Broadway" and "NY LA" make for a session of pure musical talent and style. Also a baladeer, Steve Cole practically oozes sensuality with his slow jams "Love letter" and "Missing you". And with a guest appearance from Mauli B on "Missing You" and Aloe Blacc and Brevi on "Keep it Live", the album is rounded off with a sprinkle of R&B and rap (music which I don't generally like, but in this case a will make an exception ;)
All in all, a very smooth album, with different songs to fit different moods. With innovative musicians like Steve Cole, the world of music will constantly be changing and transforming into new and, hopefully, better styles
