Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Product Description
Canon has once again raised the bar in the world of 35mm SLRs with its EOS Rebel Ti. Canon claims the Rebel Ti has the fastest autofocus (AF) in its class, which should increase accuracy and precision for shooting at a real-life pace. A built-in flash pops up easily for low-light situations, and its extended arm reduces red-eye effect. This version of the Rebel Ti comes without a lens.

Fast, accurate, and flexible, Rebel Ti's three autofocus systems (the camera chooses the best one automatically) free you to concentrate on your composition and to just have fun. Seven focusing points cover an area wider than any other camera in its class, letting you place your subject off-center or even focus on the area covered by multiple focus points.

The glare-free laser matte viewfinder displays seven wide-area focusing points, which are clearly superimposed to guide composition. There's also a dioptric adjustment so that prescription glasses can be removed for up-close comfort. The extralarge LCD panel is illuminated for clear viewing whatever the lighting conditions.

The Rebel Ti's automatic exposure system should ensure professional results, but the camera's special exposure controls give you lots of room for experimentation. With the multiple exposure control, you can place up to nine images in a single frame for impressive surrealistic compositions.

Shooting feels natural because the shutter button, AF point selector, main dial, command dial, and even the LCD panel's buttons are all within reach for one-handed operation. The command dial has seven preset image controls for work in various common shooting situations.

The lens mount is solid stainless steel to handle Canon's full line of world-renowned lenses. A built-in, automatic pop-up flash eliminates guesswork. It recycles for action quickly, and with a red-eye reduction lamp built right in, images are natural and flattering. The quartz date imprinting feature can stamp your photos with the exact time you shoot your images.

From the Manufacturer
The EOS Rebel Ti takes product design and technological perfection one step further. It represents 15 years of EOS System technology and Canon’s continued commitment to conventional 35mm photography. The Rebel Ti incorporates a host of new and improved features, some of which include a stainless steel lens mount that’s fully compatible with all EF-series lenses; an AF tracking speed rivaling that found in Canon’s professional EOS-1 series models; 2.5 frames per second film advance; a 7-point high-speed selectable autofocus system with superimposed focusing points; and a new retractable built-in flash. In addition, the EOS Rebel Ti is fully compatible with Canon’s EX-series Speedlites and advanced flash metering system including wireless E-TTL, FE Lock and High-Speed Sync modes. The Rebel Ti clearly differentiates itself from its predecessors with its new ergonomic appearance and futuristic style. Canon also improved the overall layout of the camera’s controls, positi! oning them precisely where hands and fingers naturally fall, making the Rebel Ti extremely comfortable to hold and to use.

Next Generation Design

EOS Rebel Ti leads SLR photography into the future with a design that's intelligently planned as well as artfully executed. It's comfortable to hold, carry and use...intuitive so you'll start having fun right away...and loaded with head-turning Canon style. Rebel Ti gives you the world of SLR photography in a small, light, eminently portable format. The grip conforms to the natural shape of your hand for the most comfortable shooting experience ever. All the essential controls are within reach of the hand that holds the camera for easy, spontaneous shooting that lets you keep up with the action. The big, illuminated LCD Screen makes everything clear, and the camera is designed to let you look at the screen while operating the controls. The ultra-durable, stainless lens mount will allow you to switch between Canon's precision lenses as often as you like for years to come.

Highly Advanced, Fastest Autofocus

Rebel Ti's Autofocus is not only the fastest of any camera in its class; it's the smartest. It knows where your subject is, virtually anywhere in the frame. It knows whether your subject is moving and predicts its speed. It even knows how you're holding the camera. The result? Carefree shooting with spectacular results. With the 7 selectable focusing points set in a wide cross pattern, the camera lets you place your subject almost anywhere you like, or set focus across multiple points. An advanced sensor tells the camera whether you're shooting horizontally or vertically, ensuring that your subject is properly focussed in every situation. Proper exposure makes good shots into great ones, and with the Rebel Ti, you can trust the automatic exposure system to do all the work. From sunny beach and sky scenes to nightscapes and everything in between, exposure is consistent and accurate. Common exposure errors are eliminated with a clever calculation that gathers information from ! 35 zones, accounting for lighting extremes and selected focus point. Exposure is refined even further because the camera senses whether you're shooting horizontally or vertically and compensates accordingly. The built-in flash pops up automatically for precise, flattering illumination. An extended arm keeps the flash away from the lens, reducing red-eye effect. Advanced TTL flash metering analyzes 3 zones plus the AF point. The camera's E-TTL system allows you to use EX-series Speedlites and Macrolites featuring wireless flash system.

Fun Shooting Options for Every Skill Level

Take as much, or as little, creative control as you want! With easy-programmed shooting options plus semi to full manual control over exposure and focus, you'll set your own pace for discovering the excitement of SLR photography. Image Zone has 7 Programmed Image Controls perfect for common shooting situations. Creative zone lets you play with focus and exposure for pro-style effects. Usually found only on high-end cameras, this button gives you a preview of the finished shot, showing you exactly what's in focus before you press the shutter. This feature works only in the Creative Zone.

A Few Things to Ponder5
First of all, I would not consider myself a camera expert at all. To compensate, I did fairly extensive research on the different SLRs available for a beginner's price tag. I purchased my Canon Ti a little over a month ago, and have been truly impressed with what this camera can do. I have taken a good variety of pictures (indoor/outdoor, day/night) using 400 and 800 speed Kodak and Fuji film, and all pictures have turned out beautifully. Several of my "artistic shots" look truly amazing.

Rather than run through a list of features or give insight that I am not qualified to do, let me say a few things that I have not really seen in other reviews.

My biggest discovery was in the differences between the Ti and the Ti Date cameras. If you would be interested in using the remote switch or the remote control, you must buy the Date camera. I don't know why this isn't clearer in the product descriptions (unless I just missed it), but this is a pretty major difference between the cameras. I very nearly made a costly mistake...

Also, I think that it is vital that you actually get your hands on the cameras you are looking at. The feel of the Rebel Ti was one of its main selling points to me. I liked it better than the Rebel 2000, Minolta Maxxum 5, etc. I was also considering the Elan 7E, but felt that it was a little too heavy and bulky when compared with the Ti. Pick the camera up, see how it sits in your hands, play with the little controls... see if it FEELS right. I will say that it is very handy that the Ti has virtually everything accessible with the right hand. I also like the large LCD panel on the back of the camera (as opposed to the top). The backlight on the LCD panel adds a nice touch - I was able to use it in total darkness to take pictures of fireworks. Cool!

As to this kit, I priced the equipment it comes with, and it is well worth the money. The little accessory bag attaches right onto the big bag. As to the problem an earlier reviewer had regarding a missing strap, I am pleased to report that I received everything promised. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with this camera (or the Deluxe Kit).

I love this camera5
I've used Canon SLR cameras for the last 21 years and have never had any problems with any of them (a F-1, AE-1, EOS 5). I've been using this camera for the last 3 months and have been very pleased with it.

This camera's initial appeal is the compact, light weight design. However, this camera offers much, much more!

This camera has most of the features and manual setting possibilities found in professional level cameras along with idiot-proof automatic settings that make it as easy to use as a point-and-shoot...

Because you can mount any of the countless quality EOS lenses to this camera, the possibilities of crafting quality pictures is endless. The 28-90 lens that comes with this camera is a good place to start, but don't limit yourself to just this one choice. Canon has been making EOS cameras for the last 16 years and has been a market leader all that time. There's lots of great new and used lenses available.

Another definite plus to this camera is the awesome ergonomics. Unlike most SLR's, you can easily operate this one (including setting all manual and automatic settings) with just your right hand. I've never used a camera that I've been able to do this in a natural, comfortable and secure manner.

Great family camera! YOU'LL LOVE IT!5
I have had this camera for 8 months now and used over 100 rolls of film. I scrapbook and take a ton of family photos, and photos of the kids. I use 400 and 800 speed film (fuji or kodak) and this is a no fail camera! Our pictures are perfect! The are crisp, the colors pop so nicely. It is so much fun to use and easy enough that my 5 year old can pick it up and use it. It has auto focus which is what I use most of the time and is quick and easy. I prefer the date back because I might not get to putting my photos in an album for a while and need the date to remind me when it was taken. I purchased the accessory remote for [$$$] and it is great. We can do a family photo and use the cordless remote to activate the timer or to take the picture. The lens that comes with the camera is great. It is the closest you will get to a wide angel and most people won't need any additional lens. I did purchase a longer telephoto (to 300mm) because there were times such as the zoo where I needed the extra distance. I have used it a few times and it is a breeze just like the smaller lens. But most of the time I keep the standard lens on. This camera has really made me interested in photography as my pictures come out so good!
