Josh Groban in Concert has all the ingredients to be a long-running PBS staple: a young (21), good-looking performer with a golden voice; songs in Italian and Spanish for the crossover crowd (i.e., Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman) and pop and movie songs for the mainstream crowd; guest stars galore (David Foster, John Williams, Angie Stone, Andrea Corr, Lili Haydn); a large orchestra; and striking but not obtrusive visual effects. The centerpiece of this DVD/CD combo (also available in a CD jewel case) is the 80-minute concert DVD, filmed in Pasadena, California, in October 2002 and featuring numerous songs from Groban's debut CD, including "You're Still You," which catapulted him into stardom when he sang it on Ally McBeal. There are also two new songs--the ballad "Broken Vow" accompanied by Foster, and "For Always," with the orchestra conducted by John Williams, who wrote the song for the Steven Spielberg film A.I.

The 37-minute CD offers seven songs performed in the concert (including the two not on the previous CD, "Broken Vow" and "For Always"), plus "O Holy Night." The DVD has excellent picture and sound (PCM stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1, and DTS), interviews, and backstage footage, and the combination with the CD is an excellent value. Groban's fans, of course, will consider it a treasure at any price. --David Horiuchi

Phenomenal Concert!5
I've been a Josh Groban fan ever since I saw his performance on Sarah Brightman's La Luna concert DVD. I was ecstatic when I found out he was releasing his own CD, and was doubly excited to learn he was releasing a DVD.

I rushed to buy this DVD the day it was released, and all I have to say is the other viewers aren't lying when they're saying this is good stuff. The quality of this recording is second to none. Everything from technical quality to artistic quality is superb. Josh's style is very simplistic; he's a minimalist. However, as the saying goes: "The simplest melodies are the hardest to play." Josh truly proves that. He has just enough flair- not too much as to detract from his voice- and it's just enough pizazz to come off as classy and sublime.

Josh Groban is on his way to becoming one of the greats. He is truly the only singer who's managed to unite heavy metalheads, rap fans, sugar high pop fans, grunge fans, and classical fans under one roof. I have not met a single person who's listened to him and not replied with something to the effect of "Wow" regardless of their musical preference. Such is the power of Josh Groban. Rick Dees even dubbed him "the annointed one."

His genius is his ability to channel into a deep reservoir of emotion, so even though he might be singing in a different language, listeners can understand the song through feeling... and he's only in his early 20's! If you enjoyed his CD, just wait till you get this DVD and can watch him!

Aside from Josh, the thing I was most impressed with on this DVD was the sound. This DVD features CD quality sound, which is a delight.

There's also a whole debate about Angie Stone singing with Josh on 'The Prayer.' I'll have to admit I actually enjoyed Ms. Stone's version more than the CD version with Charlotte Church. I felt, personally, that Ms. Stone's technique was better than Charlotte's. No, I'm not saying Charlotte doesn't have talent- she is a powerhouse of talent- but experience counts for just as much. Charlotte, lately, has a tendency to waver just below or just above the actual note. She falls either flat or sharp of the note. Ms. Stone may hail from an R&B background, but she hit each note on key, and she brought a different flavor to the song, one that was very vibrant and natural. Suffice to say, I really enjoyed the change-up. To each his or her own =)

What a wonderful gift from God.5
I have only discovered Josh in the past year or so. Each time i hear him he sends chills up and down my body with his wonderful voice that i'm positive God has made special for him.Today i received my concert DVD with the CD. I watched the concert twice tonight each time with the same wonderful reaction of tears and pleasure of this unbelievable talented young man.If i had to pick one favorite above all that is available on the concert DVD i'd have to pick the song "Let Me Fall." The words are the most powerful i have ever heard in a song, the backdrop is breathtaking and the ending of the song plus what he does on stage (don't want to give it away) just plain makes me cry because the beauty of the song, the meaning of the words, the climatic finish is turly a masterpiece that will grab your heart, take you breath away all at the same time. No concert that i have ever seen has ever had the emotional effect on me as this one did.I hope he goes down in history as one of the greatest singers of all songs of all time. I'm not a collector of autographs or stuff like that, but i'd wait days just to shake his hand and say "thank you Josh." This is how impressed i am.

A must have item for music lovers5
Though this DVD is still in the making as I'm making this review, I'm truly confident that it will be a best seller when it is released. Many of my fellow Grobanites(Josh Fans) are already preordering this item like crazy. Witnessing the PBS taping of Josh in LA which will also be covered on this DVD, I can attest to you all that it is truly an amazing concert. Josh will be singing all of his songs from his first album in a live concert with a backup orchestra. I just want to relive that moment through this DVD. Interestingly, from what I heard(which can still change)the DVD will also contain special features like additional footage of Josh with David Foster, John Williams, and friends. The included CD is a plus which I think will contain some of Josh songs not covered by his first album. One indication is that Josh have one christmas song, "O Holy Night" in it. In any rate, this CD\DVD package will truly be treasured by many and are eagerly anticipating its release. But don't take my word, see it, hear it, and you'll talk more about it or even become a Grobanite someday. Don't tell me I didn't remind you because someday you'll know what I mean. See further details of this CD\DVD package as they become available.
