Customer Reviews

Soul is not just an American phenomenon5
This album is a collection of contemporary Soul and R&B from around the world. The music is good for listening and the beats are good for dancing. Most of the artists are African Diaspora living in Europe, Africa, and South America. The same kind of quality and innovation international artists like Alpha Blondie bring to Reggae, these artists are bringing to soul. I particularly like 'Kaissa' from Cameroon and 'China' from France.
This is 'Globalization' at its best!

Great CD -- check out Cameroonian songtress Kaïssa!5
This a great CD I picked up after hearing Kaïssa's Duala version of 'Superstar' from Jazzhole's "Circle of the Sun" album on WERS in Boston. Kaïssa is an immensely talented singer from Cameroon working and performing in New York, sometimes with Jazzhole, sometimes solo. Leave it to Putamayo to compile such a diverse collection of amazing, independent artists! Don't miss this one!

Nice Change of Pace4
This Cd is of a nice change of pace. These are for the most part sweet R&B songs with some hip-hop elements thrown in for good measure from various corners of the globe. The song by Tasha, "Beyond the Ocean" is an especially sweet love song done in Korean with some English thrown in. "Mon Peau" is also quite lovely too, and the bonus is that this collection features English transaltions in the liner notes for th monolingual. Some of the foreign tunes that are heavily hip hop oriented may not be to everyone's taste, but as a whole, this is a worhtwhile purchase for the adventurous.
