This documentary was made in 1990 or 1991, I'm not sure. It is basically a biography. Has interviews from Jon Lord, Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Ian Paice, Roger Glover, Joe Lynn Turner. But no Coverdale or Hughes. They talk about stuff from the days since the first album right up to Slaves and masters. It features live performances (mostly clipped) of Black Night, Highway Star, Strange Kind of Woman (All Denmark 1972), Speed King, Child in time (both from "Doing their thing" in 1970), Hush (playboy mansion 1968), a video of King of Dreams, from California Jammin': The Mule, Smoke on the water, Burn. Also how Blackmore destroys his guitar. Now with Denmark 1972 and California Jam easily available on DVD, and the Doing their thing can be found on lesser known dvd's (though easily available), this documentary is useless. It doesn't tell anything real fans didn't know. On the back it says there's a live video of "Kentucky woman", but real fans already know it's lies. The only interesting bit this has, is a minute long clip of MK4 in Honolulu in 1975. Apparantly they're playing Stormbringer, but before they could start, the studio version starts, and that's what you end up hearing. No live version at all.
(Since this review is edited, I can't change the rating. Now I rate it 2 stars.)

Okay, but a little dated.3
I own this in the VHS version that is quite a few years older. This is nice because you get some interviews with the elusive Blackmore, and there iw a nice version of "Hush." However, they all take themselves a littel too seriously, and to hear Joe Lynn Turner talk about making his own footsteps in the group, (He was fired after only one album and tour) is in retrospect, rather funny.

There are some nice clips on this, but you can get more on the Machine Head DVD which catches a lot more of the creative process and does, in fact, have better footage.

A nice primer on Deep Purple, but nothing outstanding.

This one rocks. It includes interviews from Roger Glover, Jon
Lord, Ian Gillan, Joe Lynn Turner, Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Paice.
It also includes some live performances like Smoke on the water,
Speed king, Black night, Burn, Strange kind of woman, Child in time and more. If you like Deep Purple, buy this.
