Customer Reviews
Jazz + Hip/Hip = New Wave BeBop
OK, I prefer the Jazz of Dizzy, Miles, and Wynton, but I am not a snob to the smooth jazz circuit and players such as Sanborn, Albright, Boney James, etc. One day in passing I heard "Hot in Herre" on a radio station. I was hooked. I spent the next 2 months googling the Internet and Kazaa to find it because in the radio station's wisdom they didn't say who arranged that version of the song. I thought the arrangement was very original and fantastic. After a few months I finally found Hidden Beach Recording Vol I and II. I have heard "Hot in Herre" and "Gangsta's Paradise"on the radio and was completely captivated. I don't know if it's Karen Briggs(Who is out of this world) or just the whole Jazz/hip hop fusion which I term as New Age BeBop. I would have liked some more original drumbeats as a percussion foundation instead of those canned beats, but outside of that, there is enough original instrumental layers to mask the canned drumbeats, beside, you get the same from true Hip Hop anyway. I think the volumes are great and the talent represented is also excellent. The feeling I get when listening to these tracks is the same as I get when I am listening to BeBop from Dizzy, Miles, and Bird.... Just pure octane. If you listen to "Forget about Dre" from Vol, "Hot in Herre" from Vol II, or "Gangster's Paradise" from Vol II and are not at least tapping your fingers or bobbing your head, I question if there is a pulse attached to those body parts. I would love to witness this live just to be present and witness the musical improvisation that happens in playing these songs. I would recommend both CDs to those with backgrounds in old school jazz, smooth jazz, and to anyone who has an open mind about music. I think this is the bridge between Hip Hop and Jazz. There is room for improvement, but I think it's a work in process. Keep up the good work Hidden Beach...
Oustanding!!!!
This is by far one of the best Jazz/Hip-Hop cd's I have ever owned...its perferct when you can't find the right music to please everyone. Also great at bar-b-cues!!
UNWRAPPED is like no other
Jazz.. you would think of as music for the older crowd. Well, think again. Hidden Beach is full of talented people that have turned Hip-Hop and Jazz into it's own category. This is recommended for the young and the old.... I honestly think you will love this CD..... Make sure you get Vol. 1 and as well.
