British mystery fans will find a wry sense of humor combined with a good old-fashioned bloodbath in Death's Shadow. Badger's Drift is in many ways a typical small village: charming scenery, closely intertwined lives, and--whoops!--a headless corpse. Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby is soon on the scene, teasing apart the intricate network of village relationships and grudges with an increasing sense of urgency as new corpses begin piling up at a gratifying rate. The mystery is a fun one, offsetting the gore with a light touch and a knowing wink that this is all in good fun. Barnaby, ably played by John Nettles, makes an excellent detective hero--firm in his resolve, a little too passionately dedicated to his job, and smart enough to crack the case without being so fast as to interfere with the body count. This witty, well-acted production is everything you could ask for in a mystery. --Ali Davis
From the Back Cover
A successful theatrical director, Simon Fletcher, returns to Badgers Drift, his head filled with disturbing childhood memories. Soon after, a local property developer becomes the first in a string of baffling murders. Barnaby and Troy investigate the murders, looking for a common thread. The cozy villages of Midsomer County reveal their most sinister secrets in these darkly humorous British television mysteries. John Nettles stars as the unflappable Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby with Daniel Casey as Sergeant Troy, his brash young assistant. Based on the novels by Caroline Graham, a modern master of the English village mystery. DVD SPECIAL FEATURES INCLUDE Midsomer map, cast filmographies, Caroline Graham biography and scene index.
Customer Reviews
Edward E. Ford, Phoenix, AZ
Well cast and written. Easy to follow, lots of twists and turns. Very surprise ending, totally unexpected. John Nettles plays his part well, with natural human reactions and yet he isn't one of the many super-detectives. In short, he relates well to the viewer. The viewer can follow his line of thought. His relationship with his partner is honest, respectful, and seems true to life. Everyone was well cast, and I especially enjoy watching many of the older actors.
Terrific Series
I love Midsomer Murders. When I could no longer get it on TV I began ordering them in DVD format and I love them! It's wonderful to be able to watch them whenever I please. This seller is great. Good customer service and prompt mailing. High recommendation for both the movie and seller.
