General Purpose Film
Reala is a modern classic for print film. When Fuji released this film in the 90's it changed casual photography from fairly low tech to high tech without most consumers ever noticing.
The secret is the automatic color balancing that this film provides (and which is still rarely matched by other films). If you have ever noticed an odd color cast when shooting indoors or in parking lots at night you understand why color balancing is helpful. Color film is balanced for either daylight or tungston lighting, with a few special purpose exceptions. Tungston lighting is pretty much what you find indoors, with the exception of fluorescent lights which usually come out with a greenish cast. Daylight is bluish, tungston is yellow, this film balances them so regardless of the situation you get great color. It can even handle fluorescent within reason. Just don't expect it to take a picture taken with only flourescent light and not have a little bit of a greenish cast. It doesn't completely remove the color of the light but it reduces it to just giving a feel to the image rather than having someone ask why the picture's yellow when you shot indoors. As a photographer I often manipulate indoor and outdoor light in one picture but when I'm shooting snapshots for my own enjoyment this film is my prime choice, particularly when I have no idea where I'll be going.
Last but not least, it's a top quality film with a nice smooth look and great color quality at a very reasonable price. I shoot Fuji's more expensive professional films for my work but if I ran out I wouldn't worry about grabbing a roll of this to finish a job.
Sharp with Excellent Color and Tones; Great for Outdoors 35mm Photography
I am coming back to film for some reason or another for certain types of shots and so am not a 100% familiar with everything on the market but of the ones I have tried so far I really love the sharpness and color I get out of this film compared to about 5 or 6 others I have tried in the 100/200 range speed films.
I only discovered it this fall, but right now it my favorite color film and I just love it and if I can get away with 100 it is what I shoot for anything outside.
Wonderful C41 Color
Excellent film. Highly recommend. Minimal grain and great color. The 8x10's from Reala look gorgeous. BUY THIS FILM!!
